Re: Adjustable PCV - dual flow

Are we talking about the same thing? ... I don't think so. I don't advocate a PCV setup.

Re: Adjustable PCV - dual flow

On most boosted engines plenty of "air" comes in past the rings. Focus shifts to getting it out. No need to provide an additional path for "air in" IMO.

Re: How would ported head affect ignition needs?

OmniLuvr ... at this point you should probably check out some sites that actually deal with tuning on high alky fuels. What I'm saying is that e85 is a high octane fuel that cools the charge better...

Re: How would ported head affect ignition needs?

OmniLuvr, I'll agree not to turn this into an E85 thread but as it relates to what Harry is doing (mix and comparison to pure petrol as it relates to timing with a ported head) is comparing apples...

Re: How would ported head affect ignition needs?

I disagree here. At a 1:1 air fuel ratio, gasoline burns at 26cm/sec and ethanol burns at 41cm/sec.

Re: How would ported head affect ignition needs?

A lot of assumptions are going to be made here mostly 'cause the head is on the block. I'm guessing that you don't have any measurements of the combustion chambers total volume ... and frankly, how...

Re: how to test pt lifters/ Bleed

You should be able to use a wire sized to the top hole but that wire needs to reach the lower section of the adjuster. There is a ball valve inside that the wire will unseat allowing the piston to...

Re: 89 Lancer Shelby; Truly Strange Event

Put the ASD relay on your radar, too. I had very similar events such as yours, turned out that the ASD relay was going south. They're around $15 to replace ... or, if your lancer has A/C you can swap...
  10. Re: MeanMini 's cooling system anomaly: coolant push to overflow

If the engine isn't pulling fluid back, you've got a leak. Could just be a drip, doesn't matter. Could be the head gasket or any one of the external connections carrying coolant.

    I'd just do a...

    Re: Best adjusters

jeff1234 ... oil can't return the way it came into the adjuster. The ball valve in the base prevents this. So, the hole on the side is not a bleed hole. As far as the hole size, a bigger hole should...

    Re: Best adjusters

Should not have any effect. How well the adjuster performs is due to its internal clearances and how much crud is trapped inside.

The adjuster is basically "one-way" as far as oil flow is...
  14. Re: Swirl Head Porting for the first time and head casting defect

Pretty sure what is being said here is that deshrouding (too much) can have a negative effect, too. The 782 is a "fast burn" design. What that means is that the combustion event happens quickly is...

Re: T3 Cometic Head Gasket Coolant Leak

Re: Can i use this cometic hg ?

There are enough differences that you can spot right off that would make me think twice.
Coolant passages are enlarged beyond a normal 8v gasket,
The central crank case "breather hole" is blocked...

Re: T3 Cometic Head Gasket Coolant Leak

You can't reuse that gasket as is. It's scuffed because the surfaces (block/head) are too rough. The seal coating is basically scrubbed off. By themselves, the steel layers are too hard to seal the...

Re: Proof torque for 11mm head bolts?

Why would you think you need to pull them? If you do decide to pull them, the engine has to be cold. The bolts should be removed in opposite order. Question then is will the gasket stay sealed? If...

Re: Proof torque for 11mm head bolts?

"Proof torque" of a bolt is the point when the steel goes from the elastic stage to the plastic stage. In the elastic stage a bolt will return to its original length ... in the plastic stage it will...

Re: Proof torque for 10mm head bolts?

You can't determine clamp force with a torque wrench if a bolt is in it's plastic range. All you're doing is continuing to twist the bolt till it snaps. By definition a TTY bolt, once installed...

Re: Proof torque for 10mm head bolts?

'89 FSM makes no mention of this. At any rate, TTY bolts aren't properly installed that way. I own a beam wrench and it was not even close to 90-95ftlbs after a 1/4 turn as I recall w/TTY fasteners....

Re: Proof torque for 10mm head bolts?
