looks like it might be a tooth from a planetary gear or a piece of a snap ring, the ealry 604=s were good for breaking the underdrive snap ring years ago, only way to fix it was tear down and rebuild

none whats so ever, the case part numbers back in the day were the same between the 2 transmissions and were cast at the same place.
looks like he's trying to use the incorrect pinion shaft, see the difference between those 2 shafts? the shafts have to match in order for that swap to work. the 1-2 speed gears and the 1-2 synchro...

what to do about seals and retaining snap rings for a custom drum setup though, also do you have any hardened non lock up input shafts you could let go of?
