Re: '04 SRT-4 engine in an '88 Caravan build

Don't talk about that. I need him to think noone wants it until i'm ready to buy it as a SWB AWD swap donor for my SRT van.

Re: '04 SRT-4 engine in an '88 Caravan build

And every time it flares you wear off a minute amount of clutch material that minutely alters the apply timing needed to prevent the next flare. It's a moving target. Maybe ok for someone who wants...

Re: '04 SRT-4 engine in an '88 Caravan build

Ive broken the output shaft to the first transfer gear (which is much larger diameter and shorter than the input shaft, so it should be stronger) on a stock van. There does seem to be a crapshoot...

Re: '04 SRT-4 engine in an '88 Caravan build

No, the 31th is just another name for an a413. In the mid 90s Chrysler changed their transmission naming system and everything changed names, like a604>41TE, a413>31TH, a518>42RE, etc.

    Right at...

You keep saying you don't feel the need to go faster, so what's 14hp really worth to you? I'm curious to see it done only because of what you were told about the design of the elbow when you modified...

Once it has a coat of paint over it it'll be pretty innocuous.

That's pretty cool. The students at my school have told me that pics of my van are all over the place after i took it into our shop, but since i'm trying to stay completely 'hidden' from the student...

Simple, elegant solution on the intake. Plan to paint/coat it afterwards?

Re: '04 SRT-4 engine in an '88 Caravan build

All of my cars (that are turbo) have some sort of air-air intercooler setup already. May sound funny but ive been thinking about it mainly in terms of adding a small air/water cooler in series with...

    ^lol!

This and RGL10's ac/awic setup are giving me a terrible itch to build my own setup.

Re: '04 SRT-4 engine in an '88 Caravan build

I have forgotten the specifics but i think 'we' figured out the early TCM was practically a standalone and only needed a few inputs from the engine harness like TPS and MAP which are just 0-5v...

Re: '04 SRT-4 engine in an '88 Caravan build

I think a smart man would build a circuit that bounces you out of 4th gear in boost, same as a converter clutch. In fact, you could probably use the same circuit for both purposes..

    Any 604...

Re: '04 SRT-4 engine in an '88 Caravan build

Matt Cramer is on quite a few car forums and seems like a great guy to deal with. He posts a lot on GRM where i spend the other half of my forum time.

Congrats on getting the van up and running!

$15 seems very cheap for that long universal hose! I was thinking closer to $35-50! I have bought 1g caravan radiators for as little as $70 new in the past and even 'normal' replacement radiator...

Thats got to be an uncommon placement but i like it better than the first one. The plastic tank seems to work nicely where you put it.

Re: '04 SRT-4 engine in an '88 Caravan build

Well, i ran some numbers for you: If you shift 1-2 at 6500, you will land around 3700 rpm. Even though your powerband is already sloping down you're still making slightly more power at 6500 than at...

Re: '04 SRT-4 engine in an '88 Caravan build

Considering your optimum shift points currently look to be almost 6500, i dont think whatever the PT intake is doing to your powerband can really be called a problem.
