In my experience this is what is referred to as synchro rattle.
If so, and gently pressing the clutch pedal stops the rattle, it's not a T/O bearing issue,
I've solved many with a trans fluid...
I just have to ask if you guys are talking about the rattle with the trans. in neutral and foot off the clutch??

I ran the same S-60 cam and followers for decades and it's still in great condition.
I credit my success to using plain wheel bearing grease as the initial break in lube.

The very first 1985 Engine I intercooled I hogged out the later AIS and epoxied the 85 one in it.
I'm electronically inept so I had to try something simple and it worked out fine!!

Mt S-60 cam has over 20 yrs. on it and is still in fine condition.
I found out many years ago in my SBC days that regular wheel bearing grease is the best break in lube.
And, with any slider...
I always use a small amount of black weather strip adhesive on rubber and other types of gaskets.
Weatherstrip to hold the seal to the valve cover, not on the cyl. head side.
