Correct! This swap has also been done before. When I had my Syclone there was a guy on syty.net that had a Syclone engine in a Fiero. It hauled ---!! He's probably still on there...

Is that an iron duke based engine?

More sense than putting it back in a Syclone.... well sticking it in an Astro van would be too.... bet you can't tell I hate the S10/S15 platform. :D

Re: I went from this, to this!
Well, if I were to put a 4 cyl it would have to be this one:

This where in the IMSA GTP Fieros from the 80's
But what I'd really like for the Fiero is this one:

It only has 450hp @ 1200rpm

Re: I went from this, to this!
I had heard of those but never saw a 16V version. Me likey.

Just noticed that the newer Malibus and such have a 3500 now. Looks like the old intakes will bolt up, so that could be a viable swap too. 217hp stock I think. Then there's the new LZ9 3900 w/ VVT, 240hp stock. That'd be a cool swap in a Fiero if you could get it all to work right.

Yeh that 3.9 motor has had me scheming about gm swaps for a few years now, and i dont even own any. Makes me wish i had my 2.8 Cimarron back..

Another GM mistake... next thing you're going to tell us, Simon, is that the Chevy Blazer is a rock solid and dependable vehicle minus the injector spider issues, leaking intake manifold issues, poor ball joints, etc....
No wonder you're attracted to the T-III :thumb:
Rod knock, what planet are you from? I've never ever seen or heard of a 2.5 with rod knock, maybe you misdiagnosed it as the timing gears knocked badly, :p
As for the Jimmy's, because you got a lemon no one else can get a good one? Sure they have issues, but checked out other products, just as bad or worse. As for the spiders, that went away in 96 so to speak. I love my 98, 200,000+ Km's on it and hard driving, towing, its had minor issues and maintenance, so much so, I am going to keep it and turbo it. :partywoot:

Try going on the V6Z24 forums bringing up a 3.8SC swap you will get flogged and it's quite funny. Take the supercharger away from the 3.8 and you have a weaksauce engine. Put a super/turbo charger on the 3400 and it will produce better numbers than the 3.8sc. There is a reason GM axed the 3800 series engine. There have been 3400 powered cars that reached the 12's N/A . I wish I could find the picture of someone who photo-shopped the 3800 into the Fred Flintstone Flip mobile haha. There have been guys who swapped in 3400s into Cavalier Z24s and are in the low 14s/ high 13's with mild mods. It gets you plenty of everything over a 3800 swap. :nod:Here is a video of one running 6psi vs a everyone's beloved 3800 on 17 psi. The videos that follow are also turbocharged, they are a very boost friendly engine.
Not sure of your point, take away the turbo on our engines and you get the same, a generic hunk of weaksauce engine.

the crank cant take revs above 5k for long before it breaks too.
now the super duty 4, now that can make some power.
Brian
Block isn't weak, they can live at 7K all day long, they just couldn't keep head gaskets in them. Not sure where you figured that out.

Re: I went from this, to this!
simon, i wasnt talking about the super duty 4. i was talking about the tech4 2.5L like my 88 fiero had. the cyl walls are paper thin. 180 is the most you should do on a setup that you want to be reliable. the cranks didnt have full counterweights either and they would kill themselves if you ran them over 5.5k for extended periods of time.
as for fitting in it... have you sat in one? i had to slide the seat forward a click or so to reach the pedals comfortably and im 6'3". head room was a little tight but i had a sunroof car so my head went perfectly in the sunroof area. :) if i didnt have a sunroof car, i would have made a custom headliner that bumped up where the factory sunroof would have went. :)

Re: I went from this, to this!
Yeah many little cars are surprisingly long inside. Miatas are like that, my eyes are nearly level w/ the top of the windshield frame :) but I have plenty of legroom.

I wish I was that lucky with the Miatas I can't actuate the clutch on most of them due to my leg getting caught between the door and steering wheel.
I did sit in one which had a modified stock seat. It was an earlier one and I could fit quite comfortably in it.
