Shelby Lancer #478! (65,000 and rip)
Yeah, I stopped by my friend's yard this afternoon un-prepared to strip parts in 35 degree weather, even though I was told a few days ago about a nice Shelby Lancer that came in with low miles.
Car #478 and only 65,000 miles..... paint is in GREAT shape and no rust. According to the original window sticker (I do not have) the car was sold in CA and sent to MD, and then Maine recently. It's a shame to be scrapped with low miles and 100% complete, too...... and like I said, no rust.
I grabbed what I could for the time being, but the head/wheels I'll be going back for in a couple days. I got the Shelby VC, dash plaque, steering wheel and horn button, all center caps, fuel rail. Rear medallion was stolen earlier today before I got there. Going back for rad/cooler, 2 piece intake, and turbo.
Like I said, the body is near mint.... maybe somebody might want to come up here soon to snag the leftovers. Car was an auto with leather, btw..... so no 555.
I'll have pix up in the next day when my friend sends them to me.
Total bummer... my friend that owns the yard just won't budge on selling it complete....

2 quick pictures in the following post. Don't mind my OCD moment with the writing on specific parts... you have to really spell it out at the yard, otherwise people will grab items that are spoken for.

Steve, I need the manual mirror block off plate on the passenger side door handle, It pulls straight out with a top and bottom locking tab, I also need the cubby in front of the shifter that screws in with 4 torx head bolts IF the spring holding the latch is still there so the door stays closed IF the front is nice looking too. I'd also be interested in the hood vent if it's not too expensive. OH! I need these pins that hold the hatch cover up.

I think the hatch plastic might have to be removed to get to them. I might be interested in getting ALL the plastic off the hatch if the price isn't too bad though shipping might be expensive.
Shoot me an Email at Oakley1@ix.netcom.com as my PM box is full
Thanks,
Jay

FYI the hose from the TB to the airbox and the airbox bracket are Unique to the Lancer.

Also SL's were T1 cars originally so they had the 520, not the 555

How are you, Steve?
I see this type of stuff and it's confusing as to why.
Get what you can to minimize the filling of other permanent parking spots so to keep others on the road.
Enjoy

Hey Ken! Been super busy with work and house/new baby thang ;) Oh, and an attempt at being a budding musician... hehe
TM's have entered my life again lately.... my R/T lost storage, so a friend is hosting his garage for a resurrection on that car, and now... this Lancer pops up. I may be taking 1/2 a day off this week in order to grab the top end, wheels, etc....
*going4speed* ...not tormenting, nor really posting up for parts, either. Just showing people what's up and what can happen to another Shelby car again. More exposure and respect for these vehicles would mean more are being saved.
Jay: my priority is getting my parts 1st, and I have a small window of opportunity to do so.... but if he still has it in 2-3 weeks, I will grab the needed parts for you, ok?

Got your email Steve, Emailed back.

Re: Shelby Lancer #478! (65,000 and rip)
check the DMV for the previous owner. Does Maine have the law that you don't need a title to sell old cars for junk?

Re: Shelby Lancer #478! (65,000 and rip)
There's a cut-off year like 1998 or 2000. Used to be after it's been 15 years, you don't need a title.... but if you're in the salvage biz, supposedly not supposed to sell cars. I was told it was they were allowed to sell like 3 or so, ant more than that and you need to have the license to be a used car dealer.

Re: Shelby Lancer #478! (65,000 and rip)
Man, let's just say I sacrificed a lot today to get there at the yard to grab parts asap before they, or the car was gone. As it sits.... I was able to get the Shelby VC, steering wheel (and shelby horn) last Saturday, and today (in 2hrs time) I got the head, 2 piece intake, turbo, airbox/hoses, radiator/cooler setup, all 4 shelby lace wheels, the fog lamps, and a special part for Jay. All that, and a massive cut on my finger dripping blood everywhere (damn radiator support sliced me up)
I'll need to go back in a couple weeks for other things (steering wheel adapter... didn't bother today w/out a puller) What items should I save on top of what I already got today? I was wondering if the wiring harness was worth grabbing for someone with a T-I Lancer.... but not like there's many people that even have those anymore. Computer in the kickpanel worth taking? It has an overhead console thing...

That's a real shame. That car looked way too nice to have that fate.

Re: Shelby Lancer #478! (65,000 and rip)
Logic module is popular for reprogramming, if you take the overhead get the air temp sensor in front of the radiator that goes with it. Four wheel disc brake set up. GFX should be good with the special jack points.

Re: Shelby Lancer #478! (65,000 and rip)
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the DEX-77 and all of the associated components. If it is still in the car, this is by far the hardest item to find and most valuable of all Shelby Lancer parts.
-
Re: Shelby Lancer #478! (65,000 and rip)
Aggravating.
Good on you for doing what you could to save parts off it. Even if they sit in a corner for years it's better than the alternative.
Rear seat fold-down handles are always asked about if they aren't broken or about to. :p

Re: Shelby Lancer #478! (65,000 and rip)
The Pioneer DEX77 was missing and I think my friend said it had an aftermarket cd player in it's place. The faceplate was missing on whatever it was that was still in there, but what are the other items associated with the DEX77 that should be taken?

Wayne, you should have hung out under the car with me yesterday.... part of me was crying inside. Absolutely no rust.... just a touch of oxidation on the e-brake cable and one of the lines going to-fro the tank. It looked like a 5-7 year old car underneath. Someone bought the car in Berwick off a used lot (you can see the ad still up on some site from 2-3 years ago on a used car collaborative website with 51,000) I searched Shelby Lancer #478 Berwick Auto and found the car. They did a headgasket job and left out a couple exhaust manifold studs (yeah, the ones that I think going into waterjackets) and a few other odd thing, along with painting the tranny a faint PURPLE and neon blue convertor. (wtf?) Water in the oil tells me they did a terrible job on the HG which did show no signs of a blown fire ring fwiw. Attachment 52156Attachment 52157

Sounds like a real disappointment.
I know Dan had thought about one, but you don't find (m)any.

Re: Shelby Lancer #478! (65,000 and rip)
I just dont understand the point. I mean scrapping the car the demand for parts on the car is near nil so what would be the point?

Re: Shelby Lancer #478! (65,000 and rip)
For some people.... it's just a car. To us.... nothing further from the truth.
You or I wouldn't think twice about crushing a Taurus or Cavalier.... to them, it's the same thing for a TM.
