Strut spring seat Q:
I need to replace my lower isolator and the upper spring seat/isolator as well.
Looking online, I find 2 styles of listings.... one is just an upper spring seat and the other is an upper spring seat as well, but with a spacer. I have no spacer on my oem ones that need replacing. Is the spacer meant to work only with that upper spring seat and goes over the spring seat and locates the actual spring better, where the others, like my oem is molded right to size to begin with?

Re: Strut spring seat Q:
OK, I got pics for those who are confused at my confusion:
Now left pic is the spring seat with spacer at $15 from rockauto. Next pic is springseat again at rockauto but at like $28 and has no spacer. 3rd pic is a larger view of this spacer and is like $10 or 15.
The price thing makes you wonder as you get the spring seat and spacer for less than a spring seat by itself.

Re: Strut spring seat Q:
Steve, I rebuilt my SL suspension chassis last year and ran into this confusion with the spring seat/isolator stuff. I bought the 'spacer' which I ended up not using. As far as I can tell, it's only used to correct the ride height for sagging stock springs. I used a new set of Eibachs on my SL.
The only parts you really need are the upper spring seat and strut mount. The spacer, boot, and lower isolator are all optional. The KYB strut boot I used had an integrated bump stop. I used the lower isolator at first but removed them since the car sat higher in the front than the rear. Removing the lower isolator lowered the front of the car about 3/8" and didn't affect the ride at all. Hope this helps.

Re: Strut spring seat Q:
Ok, guess we don't have that issue here, you buy these-Monroe part number 901908 is the seat assembly, you then buy #902993 and this gets you the bearing assembly. I would replace both as there usually pretty rusted up and worn out. Buy those 2 items and you'll have no issues. Use those numbers to cross over to any brand you want. Hope that helps.
OEM number for 901908 is 4404976, 4404977, 4684005, 4684006, 4684643, 468678, 4322760
OEM number for 902993 is 4322628

Re: Strut spring seat Q:
I don't need the bearing plate as i replaced them about 25k ago. Bit rusty, but still in decent shape.
I was just not understanding the spring seat and it's spacer ordeal.
I am going with new konis and eibachs.
I do need new bump stops so i may as well get those, too.

Re: Strut spring seat Q:
I'll post up the Monroe bump stop numbers tomorrow.
Then just buy the spacers using the numbers I posted.

Re: Strut spring seat Q:
$98 from rock auto... I price shopped their parts. There are multiple listings for different companies spring seats for instance in different areas. I got 2 spring seats and spacers for $15 from monroe. Moog supplied the lower isolator at around the same price. Then bellows with bump stops were again, roughly $15 each. Used the discount and it was $98 shipped for all 6 parts.
