I have a leak on my 555 in the CSX, it appears to leaks at the end cover. I would guess it is not as easy as removing the end cover and reapply sealant. "Please shoot me now" if I have to remove 5th gear and bearing plates etc. :banghead:

is it just the stamped steel cover leaking?
it should be that easy i thought.

If it's from the end of the cover, then yes, it is just that easy. Frankly, the whole end of the trans is super easy IMO.
Problem is, when you pry loose the end cover, the other plate might be pry loose as well, then you might as well take 5th gear off and clean/apply RTV to everything.
The trans was hopefully filled with oil its whole life and the case is Al. You should be all set. The hardest part will be removing the snap ring that holds the big bearing in place.
Thank Cordes,
I have rebuilt a 568 but not the 555
The 555 is way easier. The end cover area is much simpler compared to the 568.
While the cover is off, it’s a good time to replace the stock bearing plate with a chromoly plate.
