Re: ohiorob's project log
After being impressed by Darrel Cox's 2.4 Neon, I bought two junk 2.4L in the spring of '02, to see if I could make it work in my car. After some research, I found out that the Neon auto bolts up to the motor and that my axles will work and that the transmission mounts were the same as the old autos. Then I had to figure out how to make a distributor run backwards and make it bolt to the side of the head and run off the cam. That same year I met up with Darrel Cox at a sport compact race and discussed what I had in mind, he said he would sell me his old turbo and exhaust manafold off his green Neon. That following winter I proceeded to do the engine swap. In less than four months, from beinning to end I had the swap completed.
Attachment 44042Attachment 44043Attachment 44044Spring of '03, swap completed. Rising rate fuel regulateor, two extra injectors, and a 2:2 calibration, it was a very scary tune!! but it worked. More to come later.

Re: ohiorob's project log
Awesome car! Never knew about the 8v 2.2 TII version till now. This car has no doubtedly inspired many in the community to build these cars looking for the Great results you've shown are possible with yours!
I know it was one of the Great inspirations for me in going where I have with the Charger :)
Re: ohiorob's project log
Yep, Rob was the inspiration for MoparBoyy to put a 2.4L in his 87 GLHS which thanks to his his ADD and bike racing it ended up in my car, LOL! :thumb:
Thanks for sharing Rob, neat history! I remember you talking about saving it from the yard, and your car is now a fantastic example of what can be made from saving something that others would trash. Excellent work :hail: hoping for more pictures & info to come!
Re: ohiorob's project log
I don't know if I ever told you this Rob, but probably around 2001 or so, I saw your car run at import event at Maple Grove Raceway.
I waited around your car for as long as my corworkers would let me, in the hopes that I would get the opportunity to ask you some questions about it. But you were probably off checking out the rest of the event. If memory serves you were running high 11's at the time.

That's pretty neat, you must have been the first one to get the dizzy working backwards.

I remember you telling me that story, to bad we didn't get to meet up back then. that was back in 02 first year for the 26 tall slicks. slowed me down a little but way more consistent. ran twice at Maple grove. the first was NHRAsport compact nationals was running 12.12s all day long. got first place in bracket 1. that was on fathers day and my son was with me at the time, awesome. the runner up was a dodge shadow called topless. a girl was driving it and she wasn't. I think her car was in a magazine some time ago. next time out was NOPI later on that year. used a 50 shot of nitrous to get the party started. ran 11.80s went out in the second round. I like Maple Grove its like a drag strip in the meddle of gods country.
