Tips to break loose o2 sensor..
Well, i bought a new 02 sensor and i rented the special sockets for them...i couldnt even get the thing to budge at all....does anyone have an tips on getting the o2 sensor out (is it easier when the power steering pump is removed?)....any tips are welcome! oh btw, this is in a 89 daytona shelby.

Heat, lotsa heat... and a cheater bar
oh, and if you got the split socker, strap a hose clamp around it so it dont fan open under torque

cut wires off, heat bung with torch till glowing. slide 22mm closed end wrench over and hit with small sledge hammer.

a $hit load of PB blaster also tap the housing around the sensor with a ball pen hammer it breaks the rust loose in the threads it always works for me

Yep if you have the time, let the PB Blaster soak over night. Hammer tapping helps too. If no time, or no success, then get radical - cherry heat.

In addition to heat I also recommend the use of a long breaker bar and some anger.

i cut the entire sensor off (broke it off) to the hex head, used some heat and a BIG breaker bar, the closer the socket and bar is to the head, the less of a chance youll strip or slip off. good luck, youll need it...

I am going to let it soak with pb...the main problem i have is theres no room under there! I am assuming u use a impact when the engine is out....if pb doesnt work, on to heat i go...fun..fun crap....
And i just heat the bung right? Not the sensor cause it will expand the threads right?

Don't forget to put some anti-sieze on the threads of the new sensor, but make sure not to get it on the tip.
It can't hurt to chase the threads in the bung before you install the new one either.

Almost as good as my idea. I bought a box end and cut off the open end. Then I slipped steel conduit over the end. The 3' conduit has a slight bend at the end.
I can pop the O2 loose from above the engine. :thumb: :)
The turbos really weld these things in.

I'm in the 'cut the wires off and use a big --- cheater bar and a closed end wrench' club as well. :)

Just to confirm....a Cheater bar....is that the same as a breaker bar?

Usually, I break off the end with a hammer (though, I don't have a P/S pump on my race car). Then put a shorty socket on the hex and hit it with a breaker bar...

No, a cheater bar is a piece of pipe that is big enough to go over the end of your wrench to use as an extension.

im a mechanic so get the luxury of a rack most of the time, but i get to them from under the car, and through fender well area of my omni, but it also didnt have PS, what car is it again, i remember my 91 daytona sucking because of the huge k-frame for some reason?

Its an 89 daytona shelby.....i have ps lines in my way along with that k frame....
