A/C expansion valve and Evaporator question/issue
Hello all. Have a question/problem on an 89 Lebaron. I have all new parts for the a/c including lines, compressor, dryer, condenser, and expansion valve. The evap core is original to my knowledge. But this is where it gets fun. The flange on firewall has recessed ports what look to accept “male”
ends if you will from the expansion valve. Trouble is my expansion valve has the same recessed ports that need a male end for them. I have purchased several expansion valves including a NOS correct part number (supposed) and still no dice. When I look at a replacement a/c core it seems to have the “male” ends I would think are needed. Hopefully I can get a picture to work. Otherwise I hope this makes sense and wonder if anyone else out there has ideas??!! Thanks!

Maybe photos will work now? First is the car as it is now. Second shows the “new” evaporator core I can buy. As a side note I have found some vendors selling evaporator cores with the ports just like current on my car. What am I missing??https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...be47cce24a.jpg

That evaporator core does not look original, OE would have been a brass/copper unit. That appears to be an aluminum unit based on the flange your picture is showing.
The rockauto unit is correct in the flange configuration.
Re: A/C expansion valve and Evaporator question/issue
There should be round nylon inserts with the new expansion valve. The inserts press into those recesses and help hold the gasket in place.

all of my oem evaporator cores in my k cars have been aluminum. oem heater cores are copper brass.
and they have the female style hole just like that. the expansion valve that i got came with the nylon inserts to align the gasket and the valve just like that.

Wondered what those plastic sleeve inserts were for, I always tossed them since my evap core has the pipe stubs sticking out of the block. The evaporator in the Shadow was a chrysler warranty replacement when it was just over a year old, copper/brass construction.

interesting. Ive only seen aluminum on alot of cars. all were factory afaik.
