Want to buy distribtor like a mallory for matchbox
After many years of racing the matchbox with all the vacuum lines blocked off, re-jetted carb, and no timing advance...I have decided that I want a working timing advance set up...shifting at 4500 might let my motor last forever, but getting timing advance and shifting at 5500 should help maintain better consistency on windy days. Anyone out there with a set up they removed from their car or can set me up...would greatly appreciate it.
Re: Want to buy distribtor like a mallory for matchbox
Good Evening,
I've been working on eliminating the spark computer in my GLH for that past little while, slowly acquiring parts, and might (for once) have something to offer. After getting hosed on the purchase of a Mallory distributor a whiles back (still peeved about it), i picked up a VW Pertronix flame-thrower SVDA distributor with the ignitor II module (spark control) built in (link). modding the SVDA for the 2.2 wasn't that bad, instructions are easily found on turbododge.com (good thread, lots of pics). my biggest issue was the tach. In 86 the tach signal came from the spark computer... no computer = no tach... i purchased the tach from an 84 rallye dash (signal received from coil) from a facebook member, drilled out a spare circuit board (as the 83-84 rallye tach is 4 inches long) and soldered in jumper wires in order to repair drilled-through connections. ran a wire from the coil to get the signal to dash, but have pretty much stopped there. when i remove the 85+ tach, i lose the fuel gauge. my idea is to splice the fuel tank wire to the oil pressure gauge in the 85+ dash, turning the oil gauge into a fuel gauge, and run a mechanical oil pressure gauge, which i just finished doing. i will be continuing on this project soon, it is currently on hold as i've had to replace a couple of pistons. I'm also working on getting another engine harness in order to remove all the excess wiring, while trying to keep my A/C working.....
I apologize for the long, rambling, poorly punctuated blob of text you see above,
Hope this helps,
dominic

Thanks....I need to check with Brad Pennington, a sponsor...to see if he is up to the task. All of my gauges are aftermarket. so no problems there...and I run a Weber 32/36 mechanical linkage, non-feedback carb.

I'm wondering if I should just offer you my distributor...
Re: Want to buy distribtor like a mallory for matchbox
