Side Louvers for a Daytona
I know they are rare as hen's teeth but would like to find a set of metal side louvers for my 86 Turbo Z. If you know of someone one with a set that might let them go please send them my way.
Eventually I may cave to a plastic set but for now, metal would look so much better on my car.
Re: Side Louvers for a Daytona
I have a set that were NOS until i removed them from the box. Wouldn't sell them for less than 750$ plus shipping
Re: Side Louvers for a Daytona
removing them from a box does not mean they are not NOS
drilling 3 holes in them for mounting does mean they are not NOS
Re: Side Louvers for a Daytona
actually opened stock has it's own classification - new opened stock or new unsold stock or
sum-such
but is inventoried differently from "NOS"
"cause somewhere someday someone will cry this ain't new it's been opened"
this way the dealer can know and say it's a new one BUT it's been opened
then the customer will say .. ok ..I'lltakeit
Re: Side Louvers for a Daytona
Also i did mount them, hence why i said they "were" NOS until i took them out if the box. Condition wise they are in as nice shape as they came out of the box.
Re: Side Louvers for a Daytona
I knew they'd be up there but a few bills over my budget.
Re: Side Louvers for a Daytona
All the years I have been buying NOS from dealerships (starting in 1980) I ALWAYS open the boxes because:
1. original packaging is usually crappy or none so I pack the parts so they do not get damaged
2. lots of parts have been switched with the old used part put back into the original box. This happens for warranty work
and then the parts are rejected or never make it back to the depot for return.
3. I opened many boxes that had never been opened before only to find the part is broken or has lots of shelf-wear on it.
4. parts have been robbed by the mechanics and then the incomplete part goes back on the shelf
TRUST ME: NOS does not mean the part is perfect
In the 1980s I would order parts from the dealership here in Tempe and the idiots at the Los Angeles Depot
would do stuff like bend long moldings in half so they would fit in the metal cage that would go on the delivery truck,
or the factory would put things into boxes that were half and inch too short and all of the moldings were bent.
Could the dealership call them and complain....the answer was "no". Pathetic. Then the dealership would tell me to stop ordering those parts
as all of them were junk and they were spending too much time to return the stuff to the main depot..
Re: Side Louvers for a Daytona
Let's not even forget when a part is at the dealer and someone wants to look at the part. It may be taken out, inspected to see if it includes something (or lacks it), and then taped back up.
I think we're confusing new old stock, and new in box.

Back to the original post . . . I may have a set for you, but I'm not sure of the condition or if they're metal. I'll let you know in a week.
