Shift Cables for P body/A523
I'm in need of replacement shift cables. I have searched wrecking yards, found the P/N to be discontinued on a bunch of online Mopar parts houses. Looking for a '90-94 P body in the yards seems like searching for Amelia Earhart. The car is still driveable, but drag racing doesn't work, as it is too sloppy to shift fast. If anyone has a set, I'd be interested!

This seems to be who everyone is getting their cables from these days. I have no personal experience with them.

Re: Shift Cables for P body/A523
The bushings are good? I have never had an actual spongy cable. Just broken cables or hard to move cables.
Re: Shift Cables for P body/A523
I saw a cable with the right part# on MoparPartsGiant, and ordered it. When the cable got here I installed it, but later I saw it wasn't the Part# I asked for. Next, I went to their website and found the part was "no longer available". I'm pretty sure I installed a cable that was too long. I have poly bushings installed. I'm still looking around the wrecking yards. :(

Whats wrong with the original cable? Some defects can be fixed
Re: Shift Cables for P body/A523
I pulled a shift cable from a 2nd generation Neon just to compare with what I had. It turned out to be a match! I installed it and it works great. $21 fix for my problem. :)

How cool is that?
Do ya have part numbers?

Good stuff! I knew the end bushings were the same, but I didn't realize the whole cable matched too.

This is an incredible development.

Re: Shift Cables for P body/A523
I would NOT count on the other shift cable matching
I have a 92-3 daytona shifter and a neon shifter - both with the mounting bracket that has the clip on points for the cable ends
the clip on point for one cable appears to be the same distance from the center of the shifter but the other does not
pic has parts a little off center of each other but it looks like the distance between clip points differs with one being the same to each other and one not

Re: Shift Cables for P body/A523
neon shifter is the top one
if you look at the cable clip on points just ahead of my finger you'll note the neon clip on points are closer together than on the daytona bracket
I had a similar clip on point position difference when I put an 89 shifter in my 86 turbo z
clip on point on the 86 vs 89 shifter bracket changed by a similar amount making cable assembly impossible without the correct 89 base bracket
Re: Shift Cables for P body/A523
To be clear, I replaced the 1st-2nd cable that attaches on the passenger side of the shifter. I was out to the drags last night and it worked fine. Track was cold, not good traction the car went 14.38 @100.8. :)
Re: Shift Cables for P body/A523
Given the length of the cables, I doubt a Neon cable would work on a Daytona/Lebaron...

there's even a small difference in the attachment of that cable to the shifter as the peg the cable end slips over & clips to is on the opposite side of the main rod that is the shifter itself
so the cable attaches to the opposite side of the neon shifter rod than the daytona shifter

That won't be an issue. A ton of the Ebay short throw shifters for the Neons have the stud on the wrong side, which is our proper side.
Re: Shift Cables for P body/A523
cool. i have a rotted 2g neon in my yard with good cables.... and booger bushings already installed.
and a SRT short throw shift lever sitting there too.
toss those in the backup parts bin.
