Comparision of Mopar vs aftermarket HEP
Hello All,
In support of our new Engine simulator project (TMES aka Turbo-Mopar Engine Simulator pronounced like the River Thames "pronounced 'tems', with a simple 't' sound"
http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/sh...=1#post1141288
I have been working to better understand the REF and SNYC HEP signals, I used a real turbo distributor from my Shelby Z and tested various HEPs that I have. It appears that all my HEP are not the same but you knew that right?. I tested two Mopars and aftermarket from my CSX they are consistent from a "first look". Interesting, one from my Shelby Z the angle between the Sync and REF. is different but the car did run well. I am unsure how bad it must be to stop working. If you have a bad one for me to test LMK.
Here are my tests from my Saleae logic analyzer. The angle between the REF and Sync ranges from 166 to 168 degrees.
Re: Comparision of Mopar vs aftermarket HEP
Its been my experience the angles are off on the aftermarket ones, you can see it with the naked eye. I hoard and use nothing but OEM Ma Mopar ones in the CSX now, caused me a great deal of grief when I was getting the car sorted out.

thinkin' the couple of degrees difference might be the aftermarket suppliers way to "like but not same as" -re patent laws

Quite possible, I read the patent and could not find a mention of angle.

Absolutely! I have several NOS ones and keep any good used ones that I find, as the aftermarket ones, lets just politely say, are less than adequate.

Stuck with Mopar seals/ sensors/ timing belts pretty well all consumables from the beginning including 02 sensors.
Just a hunch, but then we saw problem after problem diagnosed and most of the time it was either the incompetent mechanic that worked on it, or the components that were replaced with A/M crap.
So many think it's just Luck when they see someone have almost no problems while they have struggled to even get to the Good starting point.
Luck Increases as you Eliminate the Simple things that can be problematic...……..
