The LED lights for our guage clusters I've seen have not been dimmable. Who knows though someone might make them at this point.
Gary,
What's your opinion of them? Do you have a part number or link for the one's you used?

That's nice to know. I'll have to look again down the road.
Ray I'm calling you out on this non-dimming sham. We should argue about it at SDAC, which is in a couple weeks. :)
So I couldn’t have asked for much of a better fit than this Summit Racing (#Cordes) Electronic Speedometer. As soon as I received it I carefully removed the bezel and glass. I then slid it out of it’s case. Just some minor trimming where the old speedometer was. Drilled two holes and used the original basket clamp to make a holder for the naked gauge. Pressure from the L body face holds it in place, although I may put just a bit of silicone on it just to keep it from vibrating out of position. I soldered the connections to the back instead of using the push terminals that came with the gauge. 1 reason is because I wouldn’t have trusted the integrity of the push terminals, and the 2nd reason is because I would have to do a lot of trimming for them to fit.
The gauge comes with a remote mount “Reset Trip” button. No joke it fit perfect where the factory reset trip mechanical button was. I just had to trim the black piece behind it ever so slightly with a step drill.
Still have quite a bit of wiring to finish up, but hopefully by the end of this week I’ll have a working electronic speedo and no more speedo cable too close to header.
(actually since I use the rear wheel for my speed input, I may just cap off the speed sensor hole altogether in the trans….at least until someone comes up with a way to control boost/timing vs. front wheel speed/rear wheel speed)
Wow, that looks great James! Might go that route eventually. Is it all stock? lol
That's a pretty incredible fit for something aftermarket. A factory looking overlay with the same increments would be killer. But the fit is pretty awesome. The LEDs arrived in the Memphis area Sunday and no update since. Scheduled time shows Thursday, so it may be then before I can test the lights out. :(
So in order to run one of those you need to splice it to the signal wire coming from the speed sensor?
Of course it is.
I actually like the factory lay, overlay, uh…the factory increments. About the only thing I wish it had is a white needle instead of red/orange….but it’s not that big of deal. I thought about painting the factory needles to match. Ideas/comments?
Also, on the LED bulb thing. I think I’m going to order a set of all white, and try to find dimmable ones. This speedo has selectable white led or amber led, but no green led unfortunately. So my thinking is I’m going to remove all the blue condoms and just go with white light on everything. I think it’ll look good/modern. Thoughts/comments?
Yes, I’m going to be picking up the signal right at the logic module connector and running it over.
That looks sweet! Nice work.
That came out great!
Yes I will. This has a calibration feature as well. So if you don't like it right out of the box, or if it doesn't work right with your sensor setup, you push the button for X amount of time to put it in teach mode. You drive one mile, and hit the button again. Easy.....except for finding the one mile of empty road.
That does look good. I'll have to compliment them on how nice that gauge is right before I punch Dave from Denver square in the face. Of course, thanks to Warren I'm a walking advert now that I have the sweet cooler. :(
That looks good James.
The added bonus is now your car will be much faster with the 160 mph speedo...;)
Got most of the wiring done last night far enough on the gauge cluster to test it all. Got a couple things to do in the car to mate it up, then I'll test it.
Ordered white LED's that are dimmable from Amazon. Should be here tomorrow. Really anxious to test that.
