hummm..
me thinks their improvement actually comes from painting the end tanks black
painting the core it's self has been proven in the radiator industry to actually reduce effectiveness of the radiator
the only reason radiators were painted black is because otherwise the core turns green and soon falls apart
the paint is only intended to prevent corrosion of the core (copper fins)
if you build a motor with lots of polished parts it runs hotter as the polished parts retain more heat than a natural finish will - likely because the small ridges and valleys in the surface have been evened out thus provideing less surface area to the air and thereby less heat transfer to the air
in no way should cloging up the fins with paint make a heat exchanger work better
Those guys who make those youtube videos are complete retards and you shouldn't listen to anything they prove or disprove. They did a test on cold air intakes on an intercooled turbo car and obviously they didn't see any difference in cold air intakes.
While certain coatings can help "wick" heat away, I don't think plain old black rattle can paint would have that effect!
Mike
ever lean on your black turbo valve cover by mistake when it's hot ?
you can almost brand lines across your hand from the heat retained in the bare aluminum fins on the v-c
i wonder if black anodizing would yield and better than paint

i laughing at this vid as the guy talks so mono tone.
I've used Eastwood "Radiator Black" paint on mine in the past, it goes on with a nice thin coat, and I never use any primer, or a leafblower to try and get all of the internal fins. For a street car I like to keep the intercooler looking stock, that's my main reason for painting it.
I think I remember this guy. He was on an episode of Criminal Minds. Didn't end well.
That is a strange result. I've read about black body radiation but I assumed the extra layer of insulation from the black paint would more than negate the BB effect. That is a pretty significant difference they got whatever is causing it.
this guy is doing it with a 12v battery and ice cooler

I'd have to look closer but I think I have more butterflies than grasshoppers. Although I must say I've gotten a lot fewer bugs in there ever since I put my front license plate back on.
Be careful applying voltage to acid, I'd def do it outside. I used muriatic with a car battery charger to see how fast it'd clean rusty steel pieces. Also tried acid to speed up ultrasonic cleaning and that gave off a foul mist too. You don't want to breathe that stuff. :P
better with no paint https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_mmmXTbLP0
Paint it black so it does not show through the grille.
I was always told wrinkle black was the way to go on say air-cooled motorcycle fins and such because of the added surface are. Radiator idunno if that would work tho.
