SEVERE binding on 2-1 downshift after full manual VB mod
wheels try to lock up during 2-1 downshift at any speed, used the superior kit and followed those instructions plus locked shuttle valve, plugged accumulator holes in case and did the valvebody bleed mod as well.
1-2 upshift seems fine, no binding there at all, but 2-1 is pretty bad, car tries to screetch to a stop.
thats the only issue, how do i go about correcting this? i dont care about engine braking at all so if that goes away as part of the fix thats fine by me.
Re: SEVERE binding on 2-1 downshift after full manual VB mod
There is supposed to be no engine breaking really in 1st. Its just supposed to overrun, like coasting on a 10spd bike.
I thought that was in the valve body. All of the manual valvebody cars i have do exactly as i mentioned.
Re: SEVERE binding on 2-1 downshift after full manual VB mod
did you do your own valvebodies?
if so what all did you do to them?
Re: SEVERE binding on 2-1 downshift after full manual VB mod
I'm afraid i am of no help.
I had Cliff Ramsdell do my trans builds. Although, Brian recently had to refresh the one in Mini. They both had the manual valve bodies installed by Cliff.
I don't know if it makes a difference but mine are both reverse pattern manual valve bodies.
Re: SEVERE binding on 2-1 downshift after full manual VB mod
There is a modification done to my Killback RMVB that either allows engine braking in 1st or not by shimming one of the valves under the outer plate. I posted about it in a thread around here somewhere, or neons.org under the same user name. It may be of no help because of the different VB designs, but it may help.
Re: SEVERE binding on 2-1 downshift after full manual VB mod
Did you install the stronger spring in the shift valve and are you 100% sure the hole in the bottom of the VB is blocked off? Try putting it in neutral then back to 1st if you need to drive it that way temporarily.
