Forged pistons what rods?
I have been looking into some forged pistons and noticed they all have bigger wrist pins so you have to buy modified rods. i don't want to pay another $250 to get some is there a forged piston that has a stock pin size?
or is there a cheaper way to get stock rods to fit the larger wrist pin?
Re: Forged pistons what rods?
Depending on how much power you wanna make, you can either use stock TII/2.5T1 rods rebushed for the new wrist pin size, or go with new replacment rods from the vendor of your choice.

Re: Forged pistons what rods?
WISECO has stock pin dia.
Re: Forged pistons what rods?
I'll sell you some t2 rods with .912 holes if you decide to go that route.

Re: Forged pistons what rods?
And trying not to step on Berry's toes.....but.....I have a set of shotpeened T2 rods already bushed for .927 pins im looking to get rid of. They will hold 400+ HP.

FYI, Venolia's are .927 and now she has .912, JE's are .912, Wiseco's stock at .901, not sure what Diamond and others are.
Re: Forged pistons what rods?
ok i checked on turbosunleashed.com and they are saying with the wiescos & the .901 pins minimal machining is required? what would that be?
Is there a better choice between venolia & wisecos?

I had Wiseco's in the old 88 Wagon and they were FANTASTIC, quiet and pretty. They fit the stock TII rods no problem.
Re: Forged pistons what rods?
ive been running wiseco's in everything ive ever owned since i was 7 (mostlt bikes and other small engines), my friend just installed them in his charger, they sound and work awsome .

They are all good but as you've noted, Wiseco fit a stock rod with no mods, others need the small end modified. For me because I kill engines, Wiseco is a poor choice as you are stuck with Wiseco spec rings, whereas the other guys, you can use regular rings.
Re: Forged pistons what rods?
is there anything bad about venolias? sounds like people like the wiescos

Again, there is nothing wrong with any forged piston, see my post above and that gives you all the info to make a choice. You will not go wrong using any of them.

I like Venolias too, but the Wiseco's are quieter. Most of the Venolia's I've heard have been "noisy"

Sorry for the slight high-jack, but can you expand on the comment about "Wiseco spec rings"? What is different about them? :confused2:

The rings on wiseco pistons are unique to them. They are a lot thinner.
Re: Forged pistons what rods?
ok so does thinner=weaker? and i have heard of pistons being noisey is that a certain brand that is and if so which one?
Re: Forged pistons what rods?
Do you guys ever have piston pin problems or are the larger pins pointless?
I know you can just call the company directly and get the pin size you want on any brand piston.

They are only noisey if you set them loose, which for a street engine, you can set them tighter and they are quiet. Mine were at first, :thumb:

They are thinner and a different spec, only Wiseco makes them.

They are just fine, Reeve's and many others are using them. All forged are a bit noisier than cast, they have to be as they expand more when warming up. If you don't want noise, run cast.
