89 turbo mini van ....no spark
I have a 89 turbo mini van that I installed a good used engine into.
Everythings hooked up that i know of but it wont start.
cranks fine
gets fuel
no electric out of the coil to the distributor.
Turn the key, positive side of the coil lights up the test light.
Bought a new coil just in case, but nothing changed.
Tried two differant HEP's and no change.
So any help or direction for me to solve this would be nice if you have time to answer.

Do you have a spare computer to try?
Or do you have the diagnostics manual to follow the no-start troubleshooting?

Johnny, is the ASD staying engaged when cranking? If you have a spare distributor, you can use it connected to your engine harness and spin it with the key on to see what happens, ASD should close and coil trigger along with the injectors.
Re: 89 turbo mini van ....no spark
ASD issue...humm. Will look at that.
Re: 89 turbo mini van ....no spark
I had a similar problem with a car about two weeks ago. The distributor and the oil pump teeth were stripped. It would turn the dist enough that I thought it was working right, but if you watched it during cranking, you could see that it was slipping. I hope that's not your problem, but it's an easy one to check out.
Re: 89 turbo mini van ....no spark
If ASD is turning on (coil + has power, injectors have power so it is) then distributor is turning. If distributor is turning at all it would trigger coil negative to ground, regardless of whether it was skipping teeth. It would still spark, just not in proper time. So considering that you have a computer powering up and receiving rpm signal and triggering ASD, it either has a bad coil driver or bad connection between coil driver and coil negative terminal. I'd backprobe coil negative circuit at pcm connector and look for flashing ground there while cranking. If nothing, replace computer.
