Re: Dare I say fastest VNT powered 1989 CSX
UPDATE
New motor has been in, I just haven't had the time to mess with it.
Mod list has changed
Stock computer
Stock intercooler
Stock down pipe
Stock Cat
2.5" exhaust cat back
+20's
AFPR
Cone air filter
Custom cam
Boost is at 16psi
Car is running rich down low, but I am really impressed with the #'s.
214.3 WHP 238.5 TRQ
246.5 Flywheel HP 274.2 Flywheel TRQ

Re: Dare I say fastest VNT powered 1989 CSX
Always liked what you did with this car. It's a funny looking dyno curve but it makes sense for what it is. Boost spike, then boost creep, then falling off because the compressor cant keep up with the engine.
Have you ever thought about trying to put a bigger compressor on the VNT?
Re: Dare I say fastest VNT powered 1989 CSX
Thank you.
I never thought about putting a bigger vnt on it just wanted to see what I could squeeze out of the stock vnt system. I'm sure if I put the bigger intercooler back on and a better exhaust and delete cat, set my boost back up to 19 with the FWD performance computer I could get 250 ish at the wheels.
I may be putting this car up for sale. Its an awesome redlight to redlight car. I embarrass a lot of people 0-60. I never have time for it and it really should be driven.
Right now I am trying to get my scca charger back on the track, fix trans problem in my Daytona, finish up tuning in my shelby lancer, install my 06 5.7 hemi into my 66 barracuda, put larger brake system and leaf springs on my daughters 62 lancer, and then there is this little b@st@rd, which has been stealing a lot of my time...
Re: Dare I say fastest VNT powered 1989 CSX
Sound like you have your hands full..
Is the CSX still auto?
Re: Dare I say fastest VNT powered 1989 CSX
Oops forgot to update that back to A555
Re: Dare I say fastest VNT powered 1989 CSX
Your dyno graphs needs to include boost!

Boost box is at the Dynocom being fixed, I'll post up when it gets back and I can do some more mods:eyebrows:

Stefan,
How do you like those tires? When I had them on the srt 4 back in the day they were crazy loud.

The ones on the wrx? Haven't driven it all that much but they seem alright. You have to remember I daily drive a Commander with mud tires on it:eyebrows:
Re: Dare I say fastest VNT powered 1989 CSX
yea I do remember the commander....not sure it was there last time I was there though...
Re: Dare I say fastest VNT powered 1989 CSX
Played with the fuel a little bit, best run so far. Boost box and Gauge say 16psi.
Re: Dare I say fastest VNT powered 1989 CSX
Turning up the boost swallows the boost spike right up. :)
Seems like it's pretty much maxed out on the turbo.

It can take another 3psi or so. Unfortunately I don't think I will have time to mess with it anytime soon, just found out we are on the move again. New England here we come:nod:
Re: Dare I say fastest VNT powered 1989 CSX
What is the destination in New England?
Re: Dare I say fastest VNT powered 1989 CSX
I doubt you will miss the weather you're about to leave behind! At least until winter.
Part of me saying the turbo is maxing out is that you gained ~1.5hp from ~1.5 psi. Turning up boost would probably increase torque at lower rpm but not add much to peak #s. I certainly wouldn't mind being wrong, though. Have you run your best trap speed (and race weight) through a horsepower calculator to see if that comes up with a number higher than your dyno? That would suggest the turbo can make more power. I feel like it SHOULD be able to make more if you ever feel like trying. My reasoning is that the VNT and mitsu have very similarly sized compressor wheels and the VNT one seems to be of a much more modern design. When i ran my recent mitsu-van runs through a hp calculator it said the mitsu was able to make ~230hp.

I edited my post above. Turns out I was at 16psi the whole time. Hooked up a boost box and another gauge both read 16psi through all the runs.
best dyno run at 16psi
215.8whp 253.1wtrq
248.1 flyHP 291flyTrq
Installing adj cam gear and mbc, stay tuned:thumb:
Re: Dare I say fastest VNT powered 1989 CSX
Did some more tinkering best dyno pull to date, pulled a little fuel out. Made 4 runs, all produced the same #'s. This will be all for this car for a while, as I am out of time and need to focus on other projects.
Boost spike to 17 psi then settles in around 15 psi.
218.4whp 264.1wtrq

New personal best. Now I know I have the fastest 1989 CSX-VNT in the world!!!:number1:
Ran at New England Dragway, 90ft above sea level. Temp was 63 degrees with 76% humidity. Made 5 runs, pretty much all back to back.
