Omygreatgoodlingoodness.....yeah I would have offered $5k.
It does look to have the preproduction hard pipe from the turbo to the intercooler so it looks legit as far as being a proto TIII.
oh wow. check out that laptop! its a respray for sure, the strut fasteners are painted right over.
this is a special car.
Definitely a prototype head....doesn't have the mounting lugs on the back for the snorkel. This was some sort of test mule...probably emissions. Is there a VIN?

Lolz, he knows what it is, bought it at 94 Newport beach auction. He reached out cause he needed a couple parts for his 90 Daytona. He and his wife are diehard SD folks, they have an 87 CSX, 87 SL, 89 Dakota, 89 VNT and this Proto. Agree, it's a mediocre respray but paint was pretty beat in 94 when he bought it. When that infamous Tim P guy facilitatd the 93 Putnam Ave plant tour in 93, we were all shocked to see 20+ historically important SD's rotting (baking?) In the hot sun OUTSIDE behind the plant where our cars were assembled. Twas a cryin shame. I feel that the june 3rd Bonhams auction will effectively set the value of this proto build. No, it does not have a vin.
Uggh.. idk about the bonhams auction setting any kind of precedent with any other cars. Seems too close to pie in the sky to me. Guy who bought Dakota numero uno has been trying quite unsuccessfully to flip it ever since. Signs of the times.. CS kept em together for this long, new overseers must not be selling enough fords. Neat proto regardless.. ----pit adj suspension. Nice.

None of the 94 auction Proto's were even supposed to be driven on public roadways. I know at *least* 4 have aquired VIN numbers;)
The guy is kinda a Xenophobe, I've know him 30 years and never been in his house/garage. Likely a one shot opportunity unless he needs more parts from me:nod:
Because I was around the birthday car when it got restored. I know it "somehow" got a CSX Vin :-) so it could be driven on the roadQuote:
