No, guess i should have said all other things being equal. Take a 10 coil 100lb/in spring and cut it in half so it is 5 coils. Now when you compress it 1 inch and it will take alot more than 100lbs. Might be double, don't remember if it is a linear relationship. Been 10 years since i've done the calulations.
Re: Looking for spring rates
Yeah, my thinking was a little off. The # of free coils does matter. Most of our stock sping setups have a number of dead coils (even Eibach) and if you are just cutting dead coils there should be no difference whatsoever in the spring rate. Once you get into the free coils, then things change.
Re: Looking for spring rates
I bought a ebay coil sleeve kit for my shadow. It was said to fit a 2g neon, but I think they are all the same. All 4 springs were the same and measured at 600lbs/in for the spring rate. Which might not be that bad for my LeMons car, but I wouldn't want that rate on a street car.
Re: Looking for spring rates
I think if you just want a mild handling upgrade id go for 250/350 f/r. If you're willing to deal with the ride id go up from there.
Re: Looking for spring rates
Did anyone ever put this list together?
I was just about to do the struts on the Spirit R/T... I planned on cutting a half coil or so... but I also planned on at least taking a good look at any of the Daytona Shelby springs I have around to see how they compared.
I'll measure them up and figure it out..

Re: Looking for spring rates
Revisiting this because i was trying to find the spring rates of the Spirit R/T springs.
I've got some bad struts on both the van and Slug, snd looking to do something to fix it this year.
Re: Looking for spring rates
Vans can use the 1 G ford Taurus springs.
Factory van springs are 11 inches install height. 960 load rate. 114lb/inch spring rate. 19 inch free height.
1G taurus springs are 10.38 inch install height. 915 load rate. 142lb/inch spring rate . 16.81 inc free height.
Lowers the van about a inch. and pick up 30 lb/inch of spring rate.
Compare moog parts cc858 and cc762
Re: Looking for spring rates
Thanks Justin. I'm considering the koni inserts or other coilover homebrew solutions. And considering for both vehicles.
I like how Slug turned out with ride and handling using the Spirit R/T coils with factory struts. Since she is lightened, it helped firm things up, but still has nice comfort.
Re: Looking for spring rates
I have Koni's with Eibach springs on the Spirit ES. The ride is comfortable on the soft setting. I haven't had them on the firmest setting yet.
Eibachs lowered the car about 3/4 of an inch too.
