L-body windshield installation
I'm getting ready to reinstall the windshield on my 86 GLHS. I found a now obsolete install kit ( mopar 4057957 ) I guess this kit uses the old butyl seal that I would rather not use. I would like to use urethane ( I've done plenty of windshields at the dealership) Is there a shim kit or does anyone know the spacer thickness so I can sent the glass in at the correct dept? any other tips would be great.
Re: L-body windshield installation
Reverse engineer it..??..about the best way. If you have 3d printer could 'kind of' reproduce what was installed new. I know I know....Mr Obvious! Could try https://www.prp.com/ if possible send us your end result(s), good luck.
Re: L-body windshield installation
I set a bead of 5/16 butyl tape around the pinch weld close to the opening and then run a bead of 3M Window Weld Urethane around the outside of the butyl.
The butyl tape keeps the glass in the proper position. Urethane seals it tight.

Re: L-body windshield installation
i just did mine earlier in teh year restoring my GLH. Just urethaned it in, the inside has a bit of overflow but its did well. Bring the car was originally butyl, there is no channel for the urethane.
Re: L-body windshield installation
Good to read how others managed this, my Lancer is due but waiting until warmer weather. Is this in knowledge centre....?...gonna look. Could own/refurbished best trubo-dodge ever but with a smashed windshield=with huge black eye and a ticket if ever driven.
Re: L-body windshield installation
This makes sense to me!!
A friend recently had his GLH windshield replaced with urethane only and it's very messy inside.
I cautioned him about this but the installer promised it would look factory correct. IT DOES NOT
Your post makes sense to me!!
Thanks
Randy

Re: L-body windshield installation
yeah if they use a ton of it its gonna squish out inside and look bad. Mine came out ok, he cut a point in the application tip and made a singel ridge of adhesive around. There are soem spots you could trim inside but im happy overall.
