I asked a girl on Michigan State's FASE team how much the paint and graphics on the car weighed. She stated that it came out to about 3.5lbs. Given how small those things are I could easily see 20+lbs. for a full sized car.

I believe it, water weights 8 lbs. a gallon. Most high end paints have a mix ratio of 1:1. So paint and primer mixed in theory should be about 32 lbs. Not including sealer and clear coat.
Sounds about right... I heard that Pro Stock cars have ~20-25lbs of paint on them
I was gonna say something to the same effect, sure is a clean original car! (that you started with anyways)
This actually gives me a lot more confidence in achieving my own goals. Nice to know if I can only work it down to a 10.00 all I need to do is wet sand and polish and that'll put'er right into the 9's!
I'd figure that if you just weight the paint and other chemicals used in the process of painting you'd know how much paint you applied as well. I have wondered for years what the lightest color of paint is, weight wise! LOL I'd laugh it it was some puke yellow!! I'd still use it though. Then I'd actually have a REASON why my car was so d@mn ugly!! LOL
Psshhh...I'm going carbon fiber!! Lighter AND stronger than aluminum!! ;) (and now we are back to reality)
Your mirrors will flap like a f'n bird!

If you think about it, it HAS to be true. Different chemical compounds and pigments have different specific weights and such, so the overall weight of the final product WILL be different based on what is in it.
Sorry  :bolt: :focus:
Ok, took out my quarter glass (speed nuts my a$$) they weighed 4.8lbs each with the butyl tape. Lexan replacements each weigh 1.2lbs.with screws and stand-offs, So good-bye 7 more pounds:nod:
Dumb question....Should I paint the screw heads black?:o
