Shelby Lancer Rear Disk Brakes Caliper Pins
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to find a set of rear disk brake caliper pins for a Shelby Lancer.
The pins are somewhat unique...
a) Most of the cars have either:
--- H5029 is right size (10mm), wrong thread 10x1.25mm
--- H5025 is wrong size (8mm) and wrong thread
Does anyone know the part number of the Shelby Lancer 10x1.5 mm
caliper pins?
Thank You, Best Regards

Re: Shelby Lancer Rear Disk Brakes Caliper Pins
Same with the pins for the 1988 CSX-T. I learned the hard way and ultimately swapped everything over to 1989 style rear discs. I found that the hoses were also unique to the Shelby cars and not available.
Re: Shelby Lancer Rear Disk Brakes Caliper Pins
I used to think I knew a little but now I know
that I don't know what I thought I knew.
I didn't know they had very specific brakes.
Always thought they would be 88 or 89.
Thanks
Randy
Re: Shelby Lancer Rear Disk Brakes Caliper Pins
You can add Raybestos H5015W to the parts that Do Not fit list..
-- This is also a 13mm caliper pin, but again it has the wrong 10x1.25 thread, the actual caliper pin needs to be 10x1.5
Best Regards, Philip

Are the rubber boots the bolts ride in available anywhere? I can make the bolts myself, but the boots, not a chance.

I was planing around with this a few months back and it appears that a boot for 91+ front caliper will work but you will need to machine a sleeve

A sleeve to go over the stock rear Shelby Lancer caliper bolts?

Here is my thought. The boots use a metal tube with grooves cut in the end.
pins https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...=10281&jsn=493
boots https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...=11515&jsn=480
Now we need a bolt with a m10 thread.
Or perhaps we could Helicoil/time cert the becking plate to accept M8 89+ hardware???
Re: Shelby Lancer Rear Disk Brakes Caliper Pins
I have to ask ,
why even try to save the 30 + year old oddball stuff when you could simply replace the shelby specific backing plate and caliper with regular 89/90 dodge parts that you can find & buy..
- and actually use
I guarantee no pebble beach show judge 50 years from now is gonna be checking caliper pin diameter..

Yup.
The 89+ stuff was used up until the early/mid 00's. Way more common, aftermarket support is not an issue at all.

That's a great question. Is there a reliable source of the 90 style backing plates in good condition? If I could just buy everything, I would probably do that for my next brake job. From what I can tell the calipers on my SL are decent. If it ain't broke and all.
Re: Shelby Lancer Rear Disk Brakes Caliper Pins
yeah.. I know what you mean
25 years ago all the caliper brackets already needed some weld applied to the ways the pads ride on ..darned rattlein' notches
kinda put me off doing rear disc again..thinking big caravan drums to match the bigger front brakes..save issues ...(??)
I also think the rear disc lock up issue might be due to the design of the disc brakes vs drums and the light weight
I think it's the small pinch point of the rear caliper on the rotor applying all the braking force in one concentrated spot on the rotor..vs..a drum applying force around most of it's circumference..
and if galaxy station wagon rear drums were good enough for shelby's 65-6 gt350 .....
that and ,
really, all rear disc options , pre the monster brake era .. were nothing more than performance image options for sales promotion..
though as Todd once suggested..a little brazing rod can fix a lot of things...or words to that effect
Re: Shelby Lancer Rear Disk Brakes Caliper Pins
Brian,
While I was looking at brake proportioning valves in my stash, I notice that a the single pin KH slider pins have the correct thread and also the correct OD pin. The length matched my notes for the 87CSX rear brakes.
I can check next time at the rear brakes

Well. That would make sense, and be very convenient. I could pull a pin and measure it soon too. I have most of my brake parts in to do the rears.
Re: Shelby Lancer Rear Disk Brakes Caliper Pins
And perhaps the KH single pin rubber may work too??

That would make sense. I might order a set to try. Do you have a PN for any of these off hand?
Re: Shelby Lancer Rear Disk Brakes Caliper Pins
I will check later today with the parts on the real car to verify

The KH "single pin" pins are the correct length etc BUT the wrong thread pitch!!
The KH boots could work in a pinch cut to length but a bit sloppy between the boot and the caliper. I would assume high temp RTV could work to resolve.
So not easy solution so far

Thanks for that info. I hope to make at least a couple sets of pins this semester.
