Daytona T1 AIS High Idle issue
Hey Folks! Been awhile.
Since I bought my 86 Daytona 8 years ago (Its a project car, so it gets maybe 30 miles per year), the PO told me he couldn't figure out the high idle issue.
I think what is happening is the AIS motor is getting stuck open. Just tonight, it was idling real high (2800) so I popped the hood, and tapped on the AIS motor with my cell phone, and the car immediately calmed back down to 900 RPM.
So what should I do to clean and lubricate this unit that is safe for the AIS motor. These things are becoming very hard to get. I do have a couple of them squirreled away... The car is stock 86 Turbo 1, log manifold.

Most common problem is the motor failing. Replace it with one of your spares.

...and don't loosen the hose clamp on them
they are indexed internally - so to say
Re: Daytona T1 AIS High Idle issue
Hmm....Id think if the motor died, it would be stuck open or closed. Not work sometimes. Never knew about not touching the hose clamp. Thanks for the tip.
Re: Daytona T1 AIS High Idle issue
while we're just talking about it run out and put some rust buster oil , what ever youhave on the screws that attach the idle motor to the throttle body
do it now .. not when you want to dothe motor swap
those screws are usually stuck good.. and the torx socket in the head is so small .. so to small
