Print your own Shelby Lancer Wheel Center Caps
Those of you with access to a 3D printer can now print your own Shelby Lancer center caps.
I have it really close to the original and have improved the retainer.
Some sanding, filling and paint is required to finish the cap off.
Thanks to Jay (GLHNSLHT2) for allowing me to use one of his caps for comparison. (I'll have it back in the mail Friday.)

Re: Print your own Shelby Lancer Wheel Center Caps
Any luck on getting some made up for sale ( Please ) I don't have a 3D printer ?
Depending on the cost , I could use a full set of center caps.
Re: Print your own Shelby Lancer Wheel Center Caps
EDIT: Just saw your gonna be selling them, not trying to step on toes so....It has to be cool with OP! I do have a 3D printing business.
Re: Print your own Shelby Lancer Wheel Center Caps
Can you 3d print with clear plastic? Like an l body dome lamp cover.

Printing one high quality resolution SL cap takes about 12 hours and uses quite a bit of filiment. Then there's the finishing and painting time involved to make them look more like the originals. They're not really cost effective from a business stand point, but it was a challenge to design.
I designed this and distributed it under a provincal license allowing people to print for personal use, not profit.
I'm looking at other production methods for the final product.
Re: Print your own Shelby Lancer Wheel Center Caps
I wasn't trying to make a profit from these. I was just offering to make one up if somebody really needed one and didn't have a printer. Being familiar with the finishing process of 3d printed parts, I know it would take some work to get these right...I wouldn't do it myself.
I assume you're printing them in ABS? Hows it holding up? Did you vapor polish it?
Re: Print your own Shelby Lancer Wheel Center Caps
Printed in ABS and then sanded, filled, primed and painted each one to make it look like the originals.
Acetone alone would smooth it out, but not enough. The first photo in this thread is of the cap finished with acetone.
Re: Print your own Shelby Lancer Wheel Center Caps
Since Ajakeski has a model now I might try and machine one out of a block of ABS. What would be nice to put in the clips that hold it to the wheel is a spot of a C-clip or spring steel. My 15 Grand Cherokee has these clips holding in the center caps and they're about impossible to remove the center cap without removing the clip 1st. Would make these a lot more difficult to come off but maybe then they wouldn't get stolen or lost as much.

Re: Print your own Shelby Lancer Wheel Center Caps
I have uploaded the center cap with Shelby Logo files to Thingiverse. Also included are the files for the repair insert and for the shelby Logo alone.
https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:566126
The files ae free to use as long as the user abides by the licenseing listed on Thingiverse. If I find that someone is violating the use license, I'll take it down for good.
Re: Print your own Shelby Lancer Wheel Center Caps
Apparently these links (above) are no longer working. Is the 3D file available to use elsewhere or even on Shapeways?
