Re: JamesMonty's 85 GLH-Turbo project log
4179 days since I last updated this. Short story is the car had issues I couldn't afford to fix at the time and I let it sit. Parked at my parents house and it was out of sight and out of mind. Every once in a while I would think I should get it running again, but other stuff just kept coming up. Then one day my youngest (you can see him in one of my old pictures) ask if he could have it and get it running again. Well it's too sketchy of a car for him but I said we could go work on it. So we sat out on a Thursday night to my parents and drug it out of the spot it had been sitting for the last 9 years. None of the wheels where stuck, so that was the first win. No water in the oil, but it had a few residents we had to get rid of. Over the next few days we pulled the gas lines and tank out. Put in a new tank/pump and ran new metal lines. Spun it up to get oil pressure and once the fuel primed it cracked right over. Ran like it was never parked. Pressure washed the slime and mold off of it and cleaned it up a bit. Ran it down the block to put some gas in it, and boy she still has some boost left in it. Going back Saturday with some plates and insurance and drive it back to my house. Then I will pick back up where I stopped over a decade ago.

Glad to see you pick up the craft again! We need more active TDers lol
Re: JamesMonty's 85 GLH-Turbo project log
Glad to see you posting again. I can’t wait to hear new car stories.
Re: JamesMonty's 85 GLH-Turbo project log
Made the 30 minute trip back to my house today. First time I have drove it in 10+ years. Went really well. Only issue I noticed was a leak out of the back of the valve cover when I got home.
Here is a little video from today - https://youtu.be/uPwiVY0ustM
Now with it at my house I can work on it more. Plans are to get the outside cleaned up and figure out what to do with the paint. Looking at it, it should be a really easy car to wrap so I might go that route since I don't really want to do a drive way paint job. I also just want to put some miles on it and enjoy it.

Other than taking my son and his friend for a little rip today I got some real work done. Remembered I had a box with some good condition used door seals. According to the box I got them from Jason H. from MI in 2009. Never put them on because I thought it would be a giant PITA. But it was only a little PITA. As far as the rips go, she will still smoke'em all the way thru second.

Still cracking away on the Omni. As long as the weather is good I will drive it out to the OVC Turbopaloza event.
Since the last post -
-painted the bumpers and headlight bezels
-installed some Honda coilovers on the back.
-Took several people for a ride in my little Omni. Think my daughters boyfriend needs new pants.
-Flushed the water out again and put coolant and a new thermostat in it.
-Coolant is still poop brown. Will have to flush it another 500 times when I get a chance.
-Drove it around my house 50-60 miles. Runs mint.
About the coil overs. Saw a post on FB marketplace for just the rear set of Skunk II honda coilovers and the guy lived really close. Seems he used the fronts and sold the car before putting the rears on. So I picked them up for $25! It would be nice if they were about 1-1/2" longer and the top of the spring doesn't really sit in the cup. I said f' it lets send it. It really really stiffened up the back, and that has been a huge issue for me on this car. Couldn't even have anyone ride in the back it or it would rub. Once I get a few miles on them I will take some better pictures of them installed.

Why just replace the old dim headlights, time for a upgrade! Used the ones Aries_Turbo linked in another post and they fit great. Big upgrade from the old ones.

Made it the 100+ mile round trip to Turbopalooza today. Did not run the car down the dragstip, was just happy to make the trip. The new headlights are really bright and just need to be adjusted up a bit to be 100%.
Re: JamesMonty's 85 GLH-Turbo project log
It was great seeing you again James!
Re: JamesMonty's 85 GLH-Turbo project log
Quick update! I got a new cone filter for the car and drove it a few times since turbopaloza. I think anything more than that will have to wait until spring. Still fires right up and rips! I might think about hooking up the heater core. No big deal if I find any issues with it since I wouldn't drive it much in the winter anyway. Merry Christmas all!
Re: JamesMonty's 85 GLH-Turbo project log
In between working on my sons Daytona I found some time for the Omni. I flush the coolant a few times but it is still super nasty brown. Drained and flushed it with water again and filled it up with some white vinegar. Let that sit for a bit and flushed it again. Now it's only slightly a greenish brown, so that's progress. Found the break in the boost gauge line today and took it for a spin. Still running a solid 10psi like when I drove it years ago. Was a nice day so I decided to crank the boost a smidge. After some accidental 20psi pulls I got it settled in to a nice 15psi. It's ready to rock for the OVC spring fling. With the nice weather over the next week I should be able to get a few other little things done before trying it at the track.

Ive had good results with Thermo-Cure by evaporust. cleans it right out without eating the metal that you would like to keep.
