Turbo after the Cats ????
Im looking into boosting my wifes 2015 3.6l town and country and there is the perfect spot for he341 just over the sub frame but it would be right after the cats and i don't want to run without them if i dont have to . My question is the any down fall to running them after the cats i never seen it done .
Re: Turbo after the Cats ????
You can run it after the cats no problem. There have been rear mount turbo kits out for years for corvettes and a few other cars. Do a search.
Re: Turbo after the Cats ????
Ya but this is will be mounted almost right to the cat . not at the rear of the car 4 feet away . This vehicle lives its life on the weekends doing long distance road trips and does it loaded with gear and lots of steep grades . The main worry is not building boost but having the turbo live long with the the high EGT temps right of the Cats.
Re: Turbo after the Cats ????
it will be sorta okay.
#1 subarus have done this for decades now. they have a Uppipe or precat prior to the turbo.running around in hundreds of thousands of subarus for decades. for hundreds of thousands of miles. not many issues with it. also VW 1.9 diesels have a pre turbo cat as well.
#2 the first thing you do when modifying your subaru is ditch the catted up pipe. If/when that cat fails. or comes apart from the heat. it sends chunks of platinum and palladium and honeycomb material directly into your turbine wheel. Effectively destroying your turbo. If you put on a new turbo to fix the issue. and do not address the Cat that is coming apart. It will quickly/immediately destroy your replacement turbo.

Short answer is to punch out the cat completely. and leave the exhaust tube in place.
