code P0420 '05 Ram Daytona
I have officially decided that fuel containing up to 10% ETHANOL is causing the P0420 trouble code (a catalyst efficiency problem) and of course turning the CEL light on in my '05 Ram Daytona! The CEL will turn off by itself and will remain off when I put fuel in saying it contains NO ETHANOL. HMMMM!
Re: code P0420 '05 Ram Daytona
Are those trucks "Flex Fuel" rated?
Re: code P0420 '05 Ram Daytona
NO he's talking about the 10% Ethanol blend a lot of gas stations have now not E-85.
Re: code P0420 '05 Ram Daytona
Ethanol is another one of those great ideas with many unintended consequences. I avoid it as much as possible.

I understand that. The reason I asked is that the emissions equipment on non-flex vehicles might be sensative enough to do exactly what he's experiencing.
If this is the case, then I'd be going back to the dealership to see if there's a fix.

How many miles on the truck? It could be the cat is worn out on the lower end of the scale and the 10% Ethanol blend is enough to stop it working.
Agreed on checking with the dealer, they could have a computer update for it.

Only 66K! The cat(s) could actually be bad I guess. I'll have to look into it.

Well the code should tell you which cat if you have 2. 66k miles, it/they should still be good, unless you run it hard all the time.

I baby it!! I'm gonna change the O2 sensors first and see what happens.
