a555 conversion, shifter cable snaped
So I recently bought a 89 Spirit ES 2.5L T1 turbo. Someone before hand had done a manual tranny swap into the car. When, I believe, the Spirit ES did not come with a manual that year, although I could be wrong...
Well today the shifter cable snapped right at the linkage(forgive my lack of knowledge with part names) if thats right.
Well now I don't know where to get a new cable from, cause I don't know what cable the car is from or what not.
I could really use some help *desperate* :hail:
Re: a555 conversion, shifter cable snaped
You should be able to use the cables out of any car which came with a 520, or 555 transmission. Those came in about any car chrysler made from 87' up to 89'
Re: a555 conversion, shifter cable snaped
After a little more research. Its the shifter Selector cable... Does anyone have a parts catalog with some OEM #'s?
Re: a555 conversion, shifter cable snaped
You will want to get one used. They are over 200$ at the dealership, and although you can get them from Napa, the Napa ones are crappy and will fail eventually. The selector cables sometimes fail when the metal rod pops out of the rubber boot on the end, or sometimes even the plastic end piece will pop off. If it's the plastic bit, a company like Kline can crimp a new end on.
Re: a555 conversion, shifter cable snaped
how much are the pair from NAPA? ANyone remember?

Re: a555 conversion, shifter cable snaped
I did a price query for shifter cables for a 87 Dodge Shadow CSX. (a555)
I tried napa and they said they couldn't get them anymore. I also tried Auto Supermarket and they couldn't either. I did price Advanced Auto Parts (the only store in the area that could get them). The set was gonna cost around $95. Not too bad, but if you are in a bind...you're screwed. They said it would take 2 weeks to get them in.
It's hard to find a good set of used cables. I've been looking for a few years and haven't found any that are really nice. The boots are usually torn or the cables themselves are gouged up. I'd consider using aftermarket cables until you can find a decent set of used.
Re: a555 conversion, shifter cable snaped
Believe I saw a omni with A525 at the yard, but those would be too short to use. All I have are A523/A543/A568/neon shifter cables.
*EDIT*

All Omni's and Charger's had rod shifted 525s. The 84-86 Daytona's were the only vehicles (to my knowledge) which were cable shifted 525s. I don't know about the neons.

Neons use the same cable as the 523/568.
