I can have the high beams on, all 4 Hella 550 driving lights powered, the defrost on high and the doors open at idle and the volt gauge barely budges.
Size has nothing to do with it, :eyebrows: Alternators need rpm to produce power, unless its modified to charge at low rpms.

I used one from a Ford....but had to modify it. Maybe the 2000 Corolla would be better.

Ok, so I have an update.
I drove Mean Mini for the first time since December, back to the house.
I still have some clean and detail work to do, plus re-install the minimal interior pieces.
Since it looked like we'd complete things today, or enough to go ahead and take delivery of her back, I went and put Slugmobile back on the road.
I dropped her off at the painter for some economy touch-up/repaint. Her clearcoat was peeling on the roof and trunklid.
Anyway if you don't remember, here is Mini when I got her:

And now

Pinstripe and turbo decals to come!
And even added some "luxury"...This is a handy little add-on. Remote rear window actuators! Going to be nice to be able to close those when caught in the rain without having to pull over.

Well I'll say it because everyone thinks I'm a jerk anyway, but when I think you're seeing is a lot of Gus's band-aid chickens coming home to roost. i.e. fast, cheap, reliable, pick any two, and he showed us fast and cheap....innovatively cheap at the time, but still cheap.

what's with all the rust up inside the swing valve? looks like the turbo was dumped in bath of salt.
Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)
It did live in New England,
And I have a spare junk turbo that I think needs to be converted to a TP dispenser
Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)
The van looks pretty good.
I REALLY want to put those window cranks in mine. I found some in a junkyard and i regret not grabbing them then. I dont know when they stopped using those but im guessing around 1986. :( What year were yours off of?
Any thoughts on why the front bumper is painted but not the back?
Re: Intro and Update: Slugmobile and Mean Mini! (long read, but worth it)
My '88 had them my '89 had electric. So I would guess '88 was the last year.

That sucks, but is better than a melted piston.
