We just received a bunch of s46 turbonetics turbo's
specs 46 trim compressor in FM style compressor cover, with oil/water cooled center section and 54mm stage 2 wheel. We can sell them 3 ways

How does a 46 trim compare to a stock turbo compressor wheel? I was under the impression that the stock turbo is a 46 trim, although the FM cover on this one is obviously superior to the stock cover.

This is a 46 Trim T4 wheel. The stock compressor wheel is a T3 wheel. Trim numbers are based on how the inducer compares to the exducer diameter. IIRC T3 wheels have a 60mm exducer and 'normal' T04E wheels have a 76mm exducer, so even if the trim numbers were the same, the wheel is much larger. I have heard that this is a great turbo up to 400hp.

Stock TI/II garrett is T3 50 trim.
Stock TIII garrett is T3 55 trim.
Super 60 compressor wheel compare to a T04E 46 trim.

Then being a s-46, the exducer or major is even a bit bigger than Garrett T04 at 3.20". FYI, the compressor inlet is 2.75". Much bigger than stock TII covers and a bit smaller than the standard T04E 3.00" covers. Just mentioning it as you will need to get creative if running factory air cleaner assembly.
Also I believe the turbine is Turbonetics version of the Garrett stage II turbine. Should be a F1-54 IIRC. I've installed several of these in various vehicles and they are enough turbo to get vehicle into the 11's on relatively low boost providing rest of vehicle is prepped correctly.

I dont think i've ever heard anyone say anything bad about a 46 trim t04e in a turbo mopar. This is basically the next step up from an s60, a go-to turbo if you want to make 300-400hp with minimal fab work or lag issues.

The 54 part of nomenclature would be referencing the turbines exducer. So a stock sized Turbonetics wheel would be a F1-49 and Turbonetics stage III version would be a F1-57.
Rob, I have the same exact turbo as you with ATP's swingvalve. In Precision (and others) nomenclature that would be called a 5454. I'm building a backup to that turbo with a stage III Garrett turbine.

I'm just going off what Cindy said in that link, after I gave her all the part numbers that came on the box the turbo was shipped in. However, it was bought about 3 or so years ago.

Anyone run this on a 16V head with a good tune? Where does it come "on" in the rpm range and what boost are you running? I know this thing will make power, but that's not "everything" to me and what I have in mind.

Any idea when this turbo would start spooling on a 2.5 with the stock 8 valve head and cam, but has all of the bolt ons?

Should be full spooled by 3500 I'd imagine. So it'd probably start building boost around 2500-2800 at least.

The terms used in this and many more discussions regarding turbo response is far too vague to help anyone make an informed decision.
Terms like "full spool", "beginning to spool" or "start spooling" are very subjective at best. No one mentions the boost level they're using or even the boost level they want to achieve, given all the variables that separates each and every build.
Nobody has even mentioned turbine a/r or stage of wheel/ housing used.
You can go ahead and tear into me for wasting bandwidth now.

46 trim To4e with stage 1 wheel and .63 A/R turbine housing should be able to reach 28psi boost in 4th gear no later than 3000-3200 rpm with supporting mods. If you're spooling any later than that you have issues ;)

In all reality we typically do not describe how a turbo works in conjunction with the engine and power demand of the driver very well at all. So yes, you make some very valid points.
