Oil pump confusion
In the middle of replacing my rod bearings to fix a rod knock, go to my project log to read more, and wanted some thoughts on oil pumps.
My car is a 85 omni GLH-T factory block and rods and main bearings were all stamped 85 so I assumed everything was orginal
My parts car is a 85 omni GLH-T factory block, but rods and mains have a 88 date stamp so it has been apart once.
The left is a 5 bolt pump from the parts car, and the right is the 4 bolt from my car. Both have aluminum bodys with cast tops but as you can see the my car has the HV pump (i think) but I swore I read here on the site the opposite, 5 bolts were HV and 4 bolts were factory.
So how can I tell if this is a HP or HV pump? In the end I will be using the 5 bolt shorter pump, its in much better condition and I have read that having HV pumps just rob power and can cause leaks through the turbo.

Re: Oil pump confusion
I just finished installing the pump and also noticed that the pickup tubes are different. The diameter of the tube is larger on the 4 bolt pump.

Re: Oil pump confusion
Good luck with your rebuild. I've always been fortunate enough to match pans/pickups so I never had an issue there.

Re: Oil pump confusion
Those are stock pumps. IIRC, the HV pumps use gears and are much taller than a stock pump, plus they are cast.
