1988 Daytona Shelby Z electrical issues
My battery gauge in the car keeps flickering, if I put a turn signal on the battery gauge move in accordance with the turn signal, If I turn on my lights it puts a drain on my battery as well.
Things I have done
Taken out the aftermarket Stereo
Changed the regulator inside the computer (from several other working computers I have laying around)
Checked my voltages
Changed out the alternator
Brand new battery.
issue still persists.
any help would be great thanks.
Re: 1988 Daytona Shelby Z electrical issues
First thing to check should always be grounds on these old cars, especially near the front of the engine bay. There's one up near the ECU that gave me some strange symptoms when it loosened up.
Does the car drive ok?
Re: 1988 Daytona Shelby Z electrical issues
is it the gauge? put a multi meter on the battery and see if the voltage changes with the signal. Id assume its a weak ground for the the cluster or a bad solder joint on the board.
my acclaim did something like this, the ground pin was pushed back in the cluster plug, sometimes when I put my lights on all my gauges would max out. I would beat the dash and it would connect and work again.
Re: 1988 Daytona Shelby Z electrical issues
Any progress on this? My Lancer is doing this pretty badly. I know it's the actual voltage fluctuating. I've tried replacing the power board in the SMEC, and the alternator. The grounds all look good. I might add another one to see if that helps, but I'm running out of ideas.
