1988-1989 are both batch fire.
All I know is they are interchangeable fit and working wise.
I've interchanged 2.2 1988 T-I with 1989 2.5 T-I, no noticeable difference.
1988-89 2.2 T-II interchange fine but aren't bolt on satisfactory on a 2.5 T
Thanks
Randy
Thank you Randy. What does "not bolt on satisfactory" refer to?
I have an opportunity to possibly pick up an 88 or 89 TII smec so I wanted to know if this would be an improvement.
Thanks
Right, the injector pulse width is too narrow to run a 2.5-T on a T-II SMEC safely.
It physically fits fine but isn't safe under boost without larger injectors. EG: +20's
Thanks
Randy
Jeff for your application, since you will be using a custom calibration, either 88 or 89 SMEC will work fine. I don't know about the wiring colors differences.

Thanks to all. As Jpcturbo knows, (I think) I have plus 40's but Dan is right. I would be installing a zero insertion force socket which makes things easier to change from chips to ribbon cable and back for tuning.
