1989 Chrysler Lebaron 2.5 Turbo
I dont believe I have ever made a thread for my daily driver. I believe the headgasket is going out, even though its a year old and the previous owner had it done prior to me purchasing the car. I honestly think the leBaron is a lemon before i brought it into my possession. I dont think I should replace the headgasket because then I might have the issue come up again, theres another lebaron in the junkyard with a 2.2 turbo instead and im thinking of swapping out the engine. Should I do it or not? is the question.
Re: 1989 Chrysler Lebaron 2.5 Turbo
You really think a junkyard engine with no history is better?
Re: 1989 Chrysler Lebaron 2.5 Turbo
If its a DD and the motor is in decent shape I would just do a HG. Less work and you know what you have. Just because a PO did a HG doesnt mean it was done right. I would also probaly toss a set of rings and rod bearings in it while the heads off. Easy to do while rhe head is off and not much more coin.
Re: 1989 Chrysler Lebaron 2.5 Turbo
What makes you think the HG is bad?
Re: 1989 Chrysler Lebaron 2.5 Turbo
Headgasket is bad! didnt update this project log but i took a cylinder head and T2 turbo from a Maserati TC....cant wait to run 13s?
Re: 1989 Chrysler Lebaron 2.5 Turbo
alright, i ran into an issue, the bracket to the turbo is a PITA, the bolt doesnt want to come out, ive tried a different 15mm and nothing! suggestions? cutting it?

It's an interesting thing, a post thread. Ever notice how some just grow and grow and are full of useful information Spyker? Heck look at Donavan's CSX build thread, only two months old and its a book and filled with great exchange back and forth! Two questions were asked of you in this thread where members were/are trying to help you. Niether one did you take the time or effort to answer:confused:. Who is gonna want to take the time to answer if it's a one way street with no exchange of information or updates? Good luck.

If you plan on taking the whole head, turbo, and manifolds off in once piece, unbolt that bracket from the block instead. They usually aren't too big of a deal to get out of the block. Then focus on it on the bench. Undo the oil return, coolant return, and drop the exhaust and pull that thing out of there. I would suggest doing bearings too, but if it runs without noise, and you dont feel comfortable doing it, youll probably be fine. Clean up the head and take a good look at the gasket and figure out why it was failing. Is it the wrong gasket for the year? Maybe it wasn't torqued down correctly, is the deck straight as well as the head? Something in that equation is probably the cause. Got a TII turbo? Good time to throw that on too. I cant imagine working on a J or G body anymore. Its been so long, they have soooo much room lol.
I wouldnt bother with a junkyard engine unless your intention is to go through the whole thing and refresh it. Why is it in the junkyard? Also its a 2.2L and you have a 2.5 computer. What year is the JY car? The cals arent the same. Also, are the pins the same? Can you just throw a 2.2 computer in without repinning anything? Idk, not up on the 88+ stuff like I used to be.

Re: 1989 Chrysler Lebaron 2.5 Turbo
Worked for me and has 33 Views so I'd say its working:thumb: You get a D on camera aiming tho:p
Start up smoke on the exhaust componants is very normal BTW. I would check the tightness on your hose clamps on the fuel lines, generally the FI clamps 'bottom out' against the backing plate when they are tight. I see air gap in yours.
Re: 1989 Chrysler Lebaron 2.5 Turbo
Oh! thank you! LOL sorry, i had to tighten the distributor....since i tried starting it without proper timing, i have to change the oil before i start it up again and im having a leak on the oil drain pipe on the turbo
