Radiator fan not coming on with a/c unless manually spun
Here's a weird one. I noticed my radiator fan won't come on when I turn the a/c on unless I give it a spin manually to get it going. I don't feel like having to start it like an old prop plane so should I look into a new fan motor? Or any other ideas?
Re: Radiator fan not coming on with a/c unless manually spun
I don't see how it could be anything other than a problem with the motor itself. Sounds like it's time for a new one.

Yep, sounds like the motor is giving up the ghost. We have the same thing happening with the bench grinder/wire wheel at work.

Definitely swap it out. And you're a braver man than me. Spinning an electric fan by hand, that if operating properly, should remove or at least injure whatever you place in it's way. Those blades are surprisingly sharp

It's not bravery, my man. It's STUPIDITY! lol

Meh, your engine is the same way. Just slap a starter on the radiator fan and wire it to a key switch. You could probably scrounge both the starter and the key switch from a junk lawn tractor (12VDC system anyway). If you really wanted to get slick with it, you could wire the starter to a single-shot relay triggered by the A/C button so it started automatically.
Other than replacing the fan, I think that's your best option.
