87-88 Daytona Shelby Z / Maserati TC rear caliper cut away pics.
I was hoping to salvage this caliper as they are getting hard to find, but I couldn't get the piston to budge. I then decided to cut it in half to figure out how it works. Hopefully these pics will be useful to all the Shelby Z and Maserati TC owners out there that want to rebuild their rear calipers. The ramp from this caliper has a huge hole worn in it from the pin that is supposed to push the screw out when the emergency brake is engaged. I'm not sure if that is a common problem with these, but it was definitely keeping this one from working correctly. The trick to get the piston apart was simply inserting the screw about half ways, clamping the head in a vise and then hitting the rear of the piston with a plastic mallet.

by the rust damage I'd suspect there was a lot of water contamination in the brake fluid too..

I'm sure the fluid was never changed and the car had been sitting since 98 or 99, but most of that stuff in the bore wiped out and wasn't actually rusty.
