USB to serial port cables WARNING!!
Hey all! I may be preaching to the choir here but just in case I'm not...
I'm using a FTDI cable that I bought from Gearmo.com. I use it to connect MPScan on my laptop directly to my LM. I also have a program called FT_PROG. The first cable I used I recall that I got instructions from another site on how to set the cable up using that app. I can no longer find those instructions. Regardless, using FT_PROG and trying program the device to invert RX and TX will wipe out the VID/PID in the device rendering it unrecoverable unless you know what was changed. The evidence of failure is that your computer will no longer recognize the device and no comport will show up in device manager. The bottom line is you will need to buy another cable.
I ordered a new cable and plan to consult with Gearmo support this time.
Re: USB to serial port cables WARNING!!
Interesting, FTDI was using their drivers/software to brick clones a few years back. Sounds like they are at it again.
