O-ring material for power steering hose
I have a bad seal on a power steering pressure hose as the ring is chewed up. A google search did not help me determine a standard seal material.
I have plenty of nitrile orings (Buna-N) and a few of the green ones for HVAC. I would guess the Nitrile ones should be OK but thought I would check first
Normally, at work I use a Viton oring in nearly everything except for high temperature but I don't have Viton here at home.
Re: O-ring material for power steering hose
I would think nitrile is fine. Nitrile is pretty damn chemical resistant.

Is this on a ZF pump with the banjo?

Both my Sundance and CSX are Saginaw, Earlier today I picked one up at the dealer for the low price of $11 and change. On my way home I stopped by a local o-ring company that offered me three of these for free.
The experts at the oring shop determined these are a metric NBR oring 7.5 x1.5.

Ah. OK.
I keep having issues with the seal for the banjo on the ZF pump. I can't seem to get it to stay sealed. It's OK for a little while, then it just starts leaking like a busted pipeline. The original seal had a small tear in it, so I replaced it with an HVAC type seal that was very similar since I couldn't find the exact seal. I don't know if the material wasn't resistant to PS fluid or what...

Do you want me to check my ZF pump in storage for size?

There are two different types of seals on a ZF pump. There is an o-ring under the head of the banjo bolt, but a metal washer with a bonded inner seal under the banjo to pump surface.
I just replaced my lines, that's how I know...

Can you confirm what is said below? I don't ever remember seeing an o-ring on the under side of the banjo bolt (which makes sense).

Thanks! I think I'm missing the o-ring under the banjo bolt head.

That's probably why you have a leak. There is definitely one there. Like I said, I just replaced the pump, lines and rack on my Daytona. Just to figure out my hard steering issue was a bound up U-joint on the column.... A bit frustrating, but now I know it's all new, and should be good for another 180K miles...:)
Re: O-ring material for power steering hose
I was thinking there was 2 of those flat metal/rubber seals, one on each side. Might just be an o-ring on the top though...

Saw my buddy replace a bunch of steering parts for a bad ujoint in a Chevy. I knew immediately what it was when I turned the wheel. Gets you the first time.

I'm just glad I'm not the poor guy I was behind at the parts store the other night. Not sure what he was working on, but it was GM and he needed a power steering line. It was special order, 2 weeks to get, and the line cost him over $100. Shoot, I replaced the pump, lines, and half the cost of the rack for that....
