Factory Turbo Reliant Wagon
This should pretty much prove these cars were made for Goverment use. The fugly green paint and tan interior give this one away as a National Park Service model. Judging by the underhood shots it's a safe bet it's the original color.

My awesome meter is pegged. Thanks for posting the pics.
Re: Factory Turbo Reliant Wagon
Cool. I don't have pics, but the MP's on Ft Belvior in Va had a couple T-I K-cars back in the late 80's. They were 4dr cars. I saw them first hand.:thumb:

If you ever see one let me know. I looked for years and never saw one. Always thought a turbo reliant would be stupid fun. Especially back in the late 80's early 90's.
Re: Factory Turbo Reliant Wagon
Oh man that is the coolest...same color under the hood too. Love the vented hood!
Re: Factory Turbo Reliant Wagon
I've seen one of those before. Just one though.
Another oddball car I saw once that I'd like to have was an '88 Caravelle with a factory TI/5-speed.

Come to think of it, I did once too. Thought it was odd. Like a 5 spd in a New Yorker.

I'm not sure, I just found the pics on Picasaweb. I was using the search function to find pictures of Turbo T&C wagons and i ran accross the pictures I posted. The users name was "guy", and he seemed to have some link to the K car club, as several of the photos he had were of K car club meets.
Re: Factory Turbo Reliant Wagon
well lets hope its in good hands.
Re: Factory Turbo Reliant Wagon
Johnny Spiva has a silver one that the Giveaway engine is going in. The Pope has a white one that's getting a 2.4 SRT4/holset setup. The pope's has tan interior, that one does, I wonder if Johnny's and the rest of them have tan interiors as well.
Re: Factory Turbo Reliant Wagon
The two I've seen pictures of had grey interior.

Re: Factory Turbo Reliant Wagon
It's hard to get things from Federal Gov't ownership to public auction because the surplus rules are such that vehicles must be offered up to State Gov'ts first. So anything that is reasonably new or low mileage often gets claimed by a state gov't before it is offered up for public sale. I do fleet management as part of my job so I only surplus stuff if it is on its last legs.
I would have love to have seen the specification on the purchase order and/or contract that led to these being built, as well as the negotiated price per vehicle.

I wonder is this "Guy" and the Guy from the K-car Club here in SoCal are the same dude? A few of those guys come out to the Meet at Apple-bee's... That sure would be a cool relic to own!

I wonder how hard it would be to track that info down. I would think due to the freedom of information act we should be able to figure it out. Where would a person start to look though?
