returning to the 3-4 gate problem
I noticed an issue with my csx, where once 5th gear is selected, and return it to the horizontal neutral gate, it normally would return to the space between 3rd and 4th gear. Mine does not. It's working fine when you select r-1 or 2 and it'll return to the 3-4 position. Is this an issue in the transaxle, or shifter?
Thanks in advance!
Re: returning to the 3-4 gate problem
Probably the shifter cables.
Re: returning to the 3-4 gate problem
What about adjusting the shifter???? Just to be sure
Re: returning to the 3-4 gate problem
It's probably a combination of things. Check the shifter and make sure the crossover linkage is working correctly. Check the cable and make sure it is free. Make sure you haven't lost any clips. Last thing would be to pop the shift fork selector mechanism off the transmission and look at the springs that return the selector shaft to the center.
HTH.
Re: returning to the 3-4 gate problem
So the return springs are in the transmission? I was hoping they were in the shifter. All linkages and shift quality is fine, just once you pull the shifter out of 5th gear, the shifter doesn't return to the center 3-4 neutral gate.

There is a spring mechanism in the selector lever housing on top of the trans. That's why there's the force required to push the selector lever into/out of the trans.
Re: returning to the 3-4 gate problem
first I would check all the clips are in position and everything is attached to the shifter and trans properly
the bolt/nut holding the link to the end of the selector shaft on the trans can also come loose
check there's no gunk jamming up the shifter
if everything seems ok then detach the shift cables from the trans and check how smoothly the cable moves inside them
they can get really bad before they are so bad you can no longer drive the car - my 87 shelby z was virtually theft proof as only I could make the shifter work lol
but check EVERYTHING else , including doing the shifter alignment , before ripping the selector box off the top of the trans
the bolt to lock the shifter to do the alignment should be attached with a plastic thingy to the shifter mounting bracket
REMEMBER IT IS REVERSE THREAD !!!! ... lefty tighty , righty loosie

and the one for the trans should be on the selector mech
if you don't have that little bolt I have one in my toolbox here by rouge beach go station
