Suggested Headlights for my 87 CSX
I am looking for new bright headlights for my CSX. (4X6)
30 years ago i converted my Sundance to H4 and currently using Sylvania SilverStar ZXE and this combo is acceptable.
I am open to ideas but ideally, if all other thing being equal, I would prefer a glass lens. There are way too many options out there, so i thought I would as the experts!!!
Thanks
Re: Suggested Headlights for my 87 CSX
I got the Autopal E-code housings on eBay for my old CSX. They use a regular H4 bulb. Also did it to my Omni and Lancer (H1/H4) and was pretty impressed by the improvement.
Re: Suggested Headlights for my 87 CSX
Yep. Autopal E codes with ge nighthawk h4's in my xj Cherokee.
Re: Suggested Headlights for my 87 CSX
Excellent thanks guys...this will fit the bill
Re: Suggested Headlights for my 87 CSX
I relayed my Jeep for high+low beams. I'll eventually do my lancer.
Re: Suggested Headlights for my 87 CSX
Any links to those autopal light housings? I couldn't find them with a cursory search.

Thanks for the link. Those are about half the price of the Hella units unless you can find them in the Amazon Warehouse.

Just a heads up. I ordered a pair of 4 x 6 Autopal H4s because of price. Fit and finish are nowhere near Hellas. They are physically bigger. I had to cut and bend the bezels a bit to get the headlights to sit flush in them. They were also wired backwards (low beam was high beam). Car is still waiting for spring so I have no idea how well they work.

Well that sucks....thanks for the "heads up". This is the type of info I wanted.
Re: Suggested Headlights for my 87 CSX
I bought mine from "rimiinc" too I believe. It was quite a while ago, but the Lancer and Omni have been great with them. I sold the CSX a while ago though. Mine fit fine and I'm not sure how you could wire them backwards.....they are just a housing with a standard bulb included.
Re: Suggested Headlights for my 87 CSX
I used Autopal for my Omni 5x7, it was nothing but disappointment and waste of money.
I've gone with LED since. Expensive at $100, but well worth the price. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
For 4x6, I would suggest look though amazon's review and see if anybody post some pictures of the light pattern before you decide buying.

Re: Suggested Headlights for my 87 CSX
My autopals are great and I haven't even dialed in the aiming. The multi LED headlights are ugly imo.
Re: Suggested Headlights for my 87 CSX
I drive a ugly Omni with ugly headlight, it's perfect.
Actually, I'm more concern about what I can see out the windshield than the look of the headlights.
Re: Suggested Headlights for my 87 CSX
One thing to be aware of is the pinout on the H4 bulbs (high/low) that a lot of these use is different than the standard sealed beam, even though they use the same plug. The H1 (high) is also different than the standard sealed beam high plug. Wiring modifications are necessary. The H-bodies (Lancer/Lebaron GTS) use the 4-headlight setup so I thought I would point that out. The P-body headlights use a different plug altogether and you'll need some cheap pigtails from Rock Auto to make the H4 bulb work.
The Autopal's come with bulbs, but I stuck them in the glove box for spares and got Silverstar bulbs instead. I'll be doing the relay mod next, but even still I like them and they do look stock. You'd have to be really close to the headlight to see the difference between the E-code and DOT sealed beam pattern.
To tell you the truth I probably upgraded the Lancer and Omni with the Autopals from old sealed beams, but it was a night and day improvement. The light spread with the the E-code housing mostly I think. The fact that H4 and H1 bulbs are so common is also a bonus.

How is the beam pattern? Last time I looked at LED, the complaint seemed to be that you could not adjust them sufficiently to not blind on coming traffic without making them 'useless'.
Re: Suggested Headlights for my 87 CSX
I am OK with the lights being a bit pricey if good quality. Perhaps I should consider Hella or Cibie.
Re: Suggested Headlights for my 87 CSX
I've put the Hella units in two different vehicles now. They are amazing.
