87 New Yorker Under Hood Relays
Okay, under the hood of my car, there are 3 relays on the driver side. Two are mounted on the front of the strut tower and one is mounted to the inside of the fender. I am trying to find out which is which and what does what. The relay mounted to the fender keeps clicking and I'm wondering if this is normal.
Re: 87 New Yorker Under Hood Relays
That's not normal, and I think that one is the AC cutout relay. I'd have to pull out the diagrams though. You can test them by jumping the terminals. I think the one with the larger brown wire is for the starter, the one with the larger green wire is the fan, and I thin kthe other is the AC cutout.
Re: 87 New Yorker Under Hood Relays
It could be the ac cutout relay. Some one before me removed the ac and it looks like they just cut the wires going to the compressor. Am I correct in thinking that the relay also increases the idle when it clicks on, because I've noticed that the idle changes when it clicks? Can I just unplug it?

After digging around on line, I found a diagram that identifies the relays. It is definitely the the ac cutout relay. Can I just unplug it?
