So... Anyone able to do anything about "rauffaik" and the prolific SPAM?...
Mike
I just deleted and banned a bunch of folks.
You're ON TOP of it!!! :-)
Curious how they got inside in the first place though...
Mike
I haven't the foggiest how they get through, or why it has been happening so much over the last couple of months. I don't understand how they can get anything out of it on this site. It must be really easy or very little effort for them to set this up.
I have hopes when the site is finally updated it will get better but its not uncommon to get spam
up the number of posts required before a member can post links..to 10 - 15 -20
should solve most of the problem
I think requiring the members to make some simple public posts is a good thing all'round
we get to see them and maybe "know" them and there's a record of posts to back track if you need to catch up to them
we had an issue on TD with someone offering parts for sale to wanted threads through PM's
problem was they NEVER posted even once so we couldn't get "to them" to remove them
setting a required number of public posts eliminates that
if staff here have a page showing who's online - doing what they might get a surprise if they start checking the post counts of member names they don't recognize using the PM system
I was surprised with this myself on TD and , more so the repeated PM use by those "stranger" members
- like every time I looked - same unrecognized users PMing...
like our PM system was their own private chat room
so that's over now too
I even reached out via PM to a couple of those "users" and even let them know the post count clock was going to shut them down but I heard nothing back
nor did I get any response to a public thread asking if anyone recognized those user names
When a new member joins they have to get 'approved' by a staff member before they can start posting ? That would most likely eliminate 99.995% of the spam from ever occurring ?
simply adding a post count "clock" that defeats any attempt to post a link to something else without 10-20 posts would save any human effort
once the spammers find they cannot attach their links their reason for being here ends and the site gets removed from their hit list
