Re: Best rust penetrant!!!!!
The best rust penatrant is an oxy acetylene torch.
Re: Best rust penetrant!!!!!
You don't need the torch with this stuff. Try it, you will like it!
Re: Best rust penetrant!!!!!
Not going to explode.... Make the shop smell like a fart.

Re: Best rust penetrant!!!!!
I had heard a variant of this. 50-50 blend of acetone and ATF. That seems to work pretty good too. I'll have to try them side by side.

Re: Best rust penetrant!!!!!
Issue with acetone, it can catch on fire, keep it in a safe place!!
Re: Best rust penetrant!!!!!
I'll have to try this on the next sewer machine rebuild at work.

It eats most of the spray bottles I've put it in too.
I've found that Kroil is the best penetrating oil I've used. For heavily rusted stuff Kroil isn't the best. If you knock the rust off, you're good to go. I've used acetone and ATF before. I wasn't impressed given how much trouble it was to make and store.

Just mix a little in the acetone cap! Use a flux brush for soldering to put it on the bolts. Half a cap was enough to 2 bolts.

I've used acetone and atf before with good results. Haven't tried brake fluid though.

I use the old school little metal pump cans from harbor freight. They work well. Sometimes you have to make a plastic gasket though.

I find this guys videos interesting. He seems very knowledgeable. Strong language and iffy jokes:

I tried the brake fluid+ acetone yesterday (stored in a medical syringe) with success. Not sure if it is any better than any other mix.
Re: Best rust penetrant!!!!!
Go to the local dodge dealer and ask for a can of rust penetrant. The mopar branded stuff is awesome, will bubble and foam up on rust like battery acid on concrete.

Pretty solid reviews, one describing it exactly how you did:

Re: Best rust penetrant!!!!!
There is a YouTube channel called "Project Farm" that recently covered this. He does his own home-brew testing on products like these.

He has some really cool/interesting videos!

Case IH has something similar. However Kroil gets my vote. Either way, give them time to soak.
Re: Best rust penetrant!!!!!
Kroil rocks ! If the power company uses it, it must be good.
Re: Best rust penetrant!!!!!
looks like project farm's test of kroil puts it way below the cheaper stuff.
ive used acetone/atf for years. i have metal pump cans (old school) that i use for the stuff cause it kills certain plastics and rubbers.
