Turbo 2.4 to rear drive conversion questions
First post. I am planning to scoop up turbo 2.4 out of a PT Cruiser this weekend with the intentions of swapping it into a 2wd Jeep Comanche set up for autocross.
I have heard talk of the Colorado AR5 transmission bolting up to that engine with a certain factory bellhousing but am unsure which one that is. And also what to do about the starter, flywheel, clutch, etc. Who has done this and can give me some pointers?
Thanks,
Greg
Re: Turbo 2.4 to rear drive conversion questions
Always had that in mind as a future project, 2.4T Comanche or 2dr Cherokee XJ.
You'll need the bellhousing from a 2.4 MTX Liberty (2WD) or Wrangler.
While you could use those transmissions, the Colorado or Solstice trans is supposed to be stronger. Solstice trans should have better gearing.
I'm not sure which clutch would be best.
With the 2.4 RWD bellhousing, the starter would be the factory one, in the factory location.
The car 2.4/2.4T blocks are somewhat different than the RWD liberty/wrangler 2.4 N/A blocks. So you can't use the motor mounts from the liberty or Wrangler.
