Re: Where are you purchasing turbo rebuild kits from?
I’ve dealt with G Pop Shop several times over the years. I never had any issue with contacting them, parts or workmanship quality. Turnaround times for balancing is usually less than a week. Shipping is reasonable.
Pandemic issues are slowing down most businesses. Could be affecting them too.

Unless the turbo you’re rebuilding is trashed, it’s a pretty simple process. I haven’t had a rebuild fail yet.

That's the thing Andy. You need to know what the service limits are on the parts. If it needs a new center section, backing plate, you need to buy em. Too many people just call her good with a rebuild kit and results can vary :-) I had a brand new turbo CHRA and the thrust bearing wasn't drilled properly. Starved the cold side of the turbo of oil. Horrendous wear on the thrust bearing. Took out the backing plate and the thrust bearing collar and shaft spacer were all blued from heat! Journal bearings looked perfect. That one was on Mark Christofferson's GLHT autocross car. Didn't last but a few autocross sessions.

Re: Where are you purchasing turbo rebuild kits from?
Im gettin ready to tear mine down, it's sitting up at work, broke the turbine housing bolts loose before I left today. Assuming I dont find any damaged parts when i get the wheels out I will be using a g-pop shop kit for the rebuild. There is really nothing wrong with the turbo, just has more shaft play than I feel comfortable with plus its going on a new engine so cleanliness is a major concern.
Re: Where are you purchasing turbo rebuild kits from?
Well, to say I messed up the seal for the compressor backing plate is a bit of an understatement. Pics to come later today. Swapped in a seal from another TI turbo I had lying around and I think I'll be off to the races.

Well, the backing plate looked good at least.

I think this whole problem was caused by the fact that I was attempting to get video of my rebuild and I don't like to keep a vise bolted to the bench for all the different filming I do. That's not a problem any more.

Welp, I think I found your problem...

Also, for the record, I think the Garrett seals were a little thicker than the ones that are out there these days. It seemed like the super old seal I swapped not only holds the oil in, but also had more squish to it and filled the groove better. Perhaps it was just swollen, but it seemed just as fresh feeling as the ones I pulled off of this turbo.
Re: Where are you purchasing turbo rebuild kits from?
I did end up using an ebay kit. Seems just fine, everything fit perfectly. while I was at it i upgraded to a dynamic seal and a 360* thrust washer. Was stupid easy to do and it goes together a lot easier than trying to mess with the 4 piece seal. Just buy a backing plate for a T3 garrett that is made for a dynamic seal, they are available on ebay new for 29.99, and install your parts. Turbine shaft spins a lot more freely than a carbon seal setup...

Do you have a link for our reference?
Re: Where are you purchasing turbo rebuild kits from?
Miles the rebuild kit that Ron's turbo shop sells on Ebay is a better quality kit than the G-pop Shop kit. I've had both. The trouble for me with Ron's Turbo shop is trying to get him to answer his email or phone!

Re: Where are you purchasing turbo rebuild kits from?
How many different turbine shafts are there for our Garrett's??
My S60 seems identical to both the draw and blow through shafts.
Thanks

Except for the impeller itself the shafts are the same through all T3 turbos.
Re: Where are you purchasing turbo rebuild kits from?
Wow, good news!
I need a turbine shaft, any idea where to get a good one??
Thanks
Randy
